Default BB Messenger problems!

Please Login to Remove!

Hi Guys

I exchanged my 9700 for a new one the other day as it was playing up and I was still within my 28 days!!

Basically yesterday afternoon I looked at my BB Messenger and found that my pic and name were replaced by the one that I had put on the old device before exchanging it (put up a pic of an alien and name as BB) and I had deleted all contacts aswell.

Then my mates said that they had 2 of my BB msgr accounts on their phones .. and when I changed my pic on my new one, that pic would appear on the old pin which I no longer have as it was given back to the shop.

I adviced all my contacts to delete that pin profile and to have the one im on now ... but no-one can see my pic when i put it up on new, and one of my buddies didn't delete old one and says that my pic keep changing on there ... this is when i put that pic on new one !! arrgghhh

I tried deleting BB msgr and re-installing it ... but this has not fixed the issue!!

Any ideas guys?? Any help would be so much appreciated

Do you use the CHANGE DEVICE option on BIS to enter the new device's PIN and IMEI numbeR?

Well when i exchnged the box the guy at the store kept the new box and basically just gave me back my old box with new phone.

Mate this is my first blackberry experience so don't know to much about BIS or how to do that. Can you run me through it please. Would this sort the problem?

Another very strange thing is that many of my contacts can't see a pic of me and one can, and one can see a pic of me which i had on my old device, which i had deleted before i gave phone back ... and i don't even have that pic on my new phone !! This is very strange indeed ... don't know what's happenin

BIS = Blackberry Internet Service.
So each carrier has a BIS website (i'm on vodafone so i go to hutch.blackberry.com)

you can find your PIN and IMEI by going to Options ->Status on your BB.
Basically you need to get onto your carrier website (T-Mobile) and change your PIN and IMEI so that technically may solve the problem. because the carrier has your OLD pin and IMEI registered.

When you got your first BB, didn't you register it on the BIS website? You are on a data plan right?

Hey thanks for replying!

I am on T-Mobile data plan ... this is my 4th 9700 in the last month as had problems with the one's prior .. but never had an issue with bb msgr!! My mate just texted me and it has appeared in the bb msgr list aswell as the text folder ... so something is wrong!

So best bet is to phone t-mobile and advise them whats happening and to check my details?

As far as i'm aware i am on a data plan!

is your mate on bb messenger? because then his contact is linked to your bbm contacts. did you get a lil phone icon next to his name when he texted you?

Hey !

Yes a little phone icon appeared on my bbm when he texted me aswell as a little phone icon in my texts folder ... which was odd as never had that happen before! I deleted his name and number off my contacts and then added it again, and when he texted me again, there was no phone icon in bbm, just a normal text msg in the folder as it should be ... why did a phone icon and his text msg appear in my bbm?

Will editing my details on BIS sort out any problems ... as any of my contacts can't see my pic !

the reason that you got the phone icon, and that it appeared in your BBM even though it was a normal text is because HE has a bb (i assume) and his contact is LINKED to your BBM contact. that's all. i'm pretty sure you can unlink them.

secondly.. a fair few people have this issue. have you tried reinstalling your bbm? maybe that might help? it did with me.

How do I re-install bb? Do I let all my contacts know to delete me off also so no problems afterwards?

with the new bbm, you can remote back up (where you can register your bbm with a specific email address and it backs up your contact list) or back up locally (it backs up a copy of your contact list on the phone itself) and then, delete the bbm by going to the applications list (go to the bb options ->applications) and then delete bbm from there and then reinstall by going to the bb homepage from your bb browser and once you do.. you can restore your entire contact list!
