Default If I generate a password is works. If I specify a password it does not.

Please Login to Remove!

This is for an new installation of BESX on SBS2008. I'm to the point where I want to activate a test device. I could not get BES to send an activation email. Everything appears fine in BES--no errors and it indicates that an activation email has been sent. But, no activation email is every received.

I tried for hours to figure this out, and I stumbled upon something. If I select the option to have BES automatically generate the password, the email is received.

Why would the generate activation password option work and the specify an activation password not work?

I would like to have a static activation password, fyi.

No email is sent when you specify a password for Enterprise Activation.

It's not really recommended to have a static password for EA since anybody can then try to get on your BES with a known e-mail address and a static password.

I think you are misunderstanding how it works.

If you SPECIFY the password, no email is sent.
If you GENERATE the password, an email is sent to the user. With the password.
It is assumed that if you SPECIFY your own password, that YOU will inform the user.

As for the actual "activation email" - this is the RIM generated email with a DAT file on it, which is only generated when a user enters a valid Enterprise Activation email address and password on their BB. I think possibly you are using the term "activation email" in your post when really you mean "an email with the EA password" - they are not the same thing.

With that logic, someone can intercept your activation email and try to get on your BES ;)

I tend to set static passwords as I'm helping the user on the phone to set it up. The time between setting it and activation is less than a couple of minutes.

This is what I normally do as well.

I use the generate and email the pass word option at let it be available for 200 hours.

We have many people that are road warriors and I am not awake when the get home at their strange hours of travel.

It is easy to change the password from BES and manually set it for those that have an issue following directions.
