Default Install mds app with usb cable

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everyone!

I was wondering if it was possible to install an application created with MDS Studio via the desktop manager with the USB cable...

Is there a way to make a .cod and a .jad out of the .jar created in the repository?

Also, is there a way to browse the files in the pc with the blackberry if it is connected to it?
I'd like to have a local webservice (not available OTA).
The user would have to come to the office, plug his blackberry on the PC and then he would be able to use the webservice...
Is that possible?

No there is no way to install an MDS Studio application via the desktop manager.

Nope, there is no way to make a .cod or .jad out of the jar in the repository either.

The MDS Runtime applications (MDS Studio or VS.NET plugin) must be deployed to a BES and installed via the BES administrator pushing the app down to the device or the user installing the app from the MDS Control Center

All communications go through the MDS Services so even if you connected the blackberry via the USB cable the communications would be sent through the MDS Services. So your Web Service on the local machine would need to be visible on your computer to your LAN.

You could make this all happen even if the device isn't connected to your PC. You could simply put some autentication on your web service and the device will get a challenge response.

Well, I was able to make a .jad out of the .jar
Was even able to make a .cod out of the .jad and .jar...
It was sucessfully installed on the handheld but no icon would show on the ribbon... :S

When you say this is not possible, are you supposing that it can't be done 'cause no one succeeded or because RIM did things so there'd be no way to do it?

Thanks for your answer...

It is not possible because RIM did things not so that the community wouldn't be able to do it.. just technically they implemented it so that the applications are managed and deployed through the BES server.

Its target design is for the enterprise environment. Basically all that is in the jar file that comes out of the studios is XML and JavaScript. There is no runnable code in there.

What happens is that the xml files and JavaScript files are loaded onto the BES. Then the MDS Runtime requests those files from the BES and installs them into the MDS Runtime.

Without the BES, there is no channel to install the XML and JavaScript files directly onto the BlackBerry... it has to ask for them from the server via its protocol.

One of the files in the Jar is a translation rule file that the BES uses to translate the Web Service response back to the compressed protocol to the Runtime. So that file needs to be on the BES or else it doesn't know how to communicate.
