Default Verizon BB in Metro trains and tunnels

Please Login to Remove!

In searching through these forums, I have been unable to verify if Verizon BB's work on Metro trains and tunnels. I know that the phone (voice) part works, but I am interested in finding out if the Data portion (email. PIN, Browser, etc... also works on the trains and in the tunnels? I assume, yes, but would prefer if someone can verify. THANKS!

I imagine it's going to vary depending on what city you happen to be in. I have some experience in the DC metro using a Verizon 7250. I have had good voice and data reception on Verizon in the metro.

Assuming you are talking about the DC Metro, then the answer is yes.

in certain subway stations you can get service.. not in the tunnels, but in the stations themselves.

Yes I know that in certain stations if u stand beneath the air duct separating the station and the sidewalk.

I heard the mta is gathering bids from carriers to wire the subway with cell service. I hope it will be Cingular.

So would any other carrier roam in the subway?

I have a similar question about e-mail signal strength on a Verizon unit. My employer gave me an ancient looking Blackberry (model R957M-2-5). This think does not get a signal at my house. I just ordered a Verizon 7250 since I have cell service through Verizon and my cell works fine at my house.

A co-worker just informed me that Blackberry's have different radios in them for e-mails and voice. In other words, e-mails all come from the same place via Blackberry. Your voice signal is through Verizon, Cingular or who ever. Therefore, my signal with respect to e-mails will probably be the same whether or not I use Verizon.

If this is true, it doesn't seem like it will matter what phone carrier you use in a tunnel or subwary with respect to sending and receiving e-mails. Can someone enlighten me on this?
