olly666, you're basically stealing other people's content, modifying it without their permission, and then distributing it without even giving credit to them.

It's a big deal and you shouldn't make light of it.
If you can't cite the source of those graphics and you don't have permission to change them and redistribute them... then you should remove them from your website.

Nice site. I don't think it's incredibly horrible (about the giving credit) since I know I've shared some of my favorite wallpapers in the past without giving credit.

However, olly666, I do think you should change your wording. You're saying, "I decided to put all of MY backgrounds..."

It gives an interpretation that these are background images you've created. Maybe if you just had said something like, "I decided to put all of my favorite background images that I've collected from various sites..."?

Definitely don't want to turn your contribution into a flame thread but I kinda agree with penguin. Just my opinion...

This is getting ridiculous. I'm new to this forum but I've done my best to contribute as much as possible with the little knowledge I already have. I'm not rude to other members and I always thank those that answer my questions. I understand the whole hazing concept, but it's a shame that more and more forums are headed in this direction.

You're missing the point entirely.
Just because "he" got permission from the original creator to edit and redistribute their content... that doesn't inherently give you permission to do the same.

Go to those authors, ask their permission, and do what they allow you to.

Whether or not anyone is "making a profit" off the content has absolutely nothing to do with it.
If you don't get permission to use an artists work, you're stealing it. Plain and simple.

It's irresponsible and unfair to the creator of the work if you don't properly credit them or get their permission to use/distribute their content. Is that so hard to understand?

Looks like you need some more bandwidth - raising awareness of good content via a site like BBF will get you a lot of requests!!

I don't have a problem with the origins of the content, I don't see it being any different to the site Seattle18 set up a couple of years ago and nobody had a problem with that.

Well, maybe the authors would have a problem with it. It's not really for you to decide.
I never saw the site that Seattle18 set up... but if they took someone else's images and then redistributed them without credit or permission then I'd also have a problem with that one too.
