I want to transfer my 7250 data to my 8830. With the 7250 I was using version 4.0 of the Blackberry Desktop Manager. I upgraded to version 4.2.2 that came with the 8830. That recognizes both devices. I backed up the 7250. When I set about to restore the 8830, first I get a warning that old data will be replaced by new data. I OK that. I see a screen flash past. Then the icon in the system tray blinks for a few seconds. When it's done, I look on the 8830 and it still has the old data. Do I need to wipe the original 8830 of its data first? (My friend gave it to me and it still has his data.) One forum thread says I can do that in Security Options > General Settings > wipe handheld. Another one said Security Options > Wipe handheld. I am not finding the Wipe handheld command at all in mine. What am I doing wrong? Thanks

Are you using the Switch Device Wizard to move stuff to the new device or are you restoring the data from the 7250 backup file?

Yes, you should wipe the data from the 8830 first. When you get to Security Options -> General Settings press the Menu button and Wipe Handheld is no the pop-up menu.

Well, I think I've got it. Seemed the key was Wiping the device. Now when I restore to the 8830 it does import my data. When I tried the Switch Device Wizard I got a message saying that an application that uses dialup is open and that I should close it and Retry. We don't do any dialup; we use MSExchange. But anyway, I closed everything except what was involved with the Blackberry installation and what was in the system tray.... WinMessenger, Google desktop. I don't know what else there might have been interferring. However, bottom line, after the wipeout, the restore worked OK. Thanks
