Default BES GAL lookup fails

Please Login to Remove!

We are newbies to the Blackberry world so any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

We are running BES v 4.1.6.10 with Exchange 2003 SP2 and our wireless carrier is Verizon. The problem is when users try to lookup entries from the GAL. When a user opens a new mail message and types a few letters of a users first name and partial last name then chooses lookup it appears as if it is doing something but then returns an error message stating "No Matches"? I have applied all the registry settings from the knowledge base article KB03193 and rebooted the BES with no luck. I have also gone as far as removing ALL Desktop Service Book entries from a few devices then did an Enterprise Activation - still no luck...

Thanks Ahead

Bill

Our soulution was to Keep a personnel list in publicfolders and add to each contact a category called personnel list.
Then show each BB user how to sort by category in their contacts folder.
Then they can delete the old entries via category and copy over the personell list to contacts once a month.
Also you can tell the BB to lookup via group of personnel list or whatever categories they have.

Not the best solution but it works very well offline for BB and windows mobile.
This also teaches the user how to better manage their contacts via categories.

Also we have outlook do lookups in the personell list (copy to favorites and enable address book) and not use GAL.
HR can manage it easier from a public folder too.

How users update:
goto contacts
View arrange by category
Delete catagory personnel list

Goto public folders/personnel list
highlight first user
press ctrl a
Drag drop into contact folder

is this easy enough?
65+ users here can handle it.

Be careful with that LDAPALPSearch key in KB03193. It seems that with that key enabled, you're basically searching against account names in AD rather than display names. Most searches will return unexpected results (if you're used to the regular MAPI lookups), and the usual "lastname, first" search will return the dreaded "No Results".

If you remove the LDAPALPSearch entry and restart your services, the lookups from the devices should work more predictably.
