Don't have time to do this right now, but I did had one of my admins crack open a 8703e, what he told me was, again, what he told me, I haven't seen it myself, there is no recognizable Intel Chip inside, but there are few Qualcomm chips there.

Whoever proved me wrong regarding "there hasn't been a Verizon BlackBerry powered by a Intel Processor" statement, needs to do more research and cite some more sites to prove me wrong again.

please see HowardForums: Your Mobile Phone Community & Resource - 8707's CPU for a revised answer.

apparently the 8707v uses the "Qualcomm Mobile Station Modem 6500 series chipset" which equates to "CDMA by Qualcomm" on the back.

Perhaps the 8703e uses the same as the 8707v

All that means is that it comes with the Blackberry Messenger pre-installed. It does not have AIM, Yahoo, ICQ, etc. Verizon has a very good "Mobile IM" brew program on their regular phones. I have no idea why they haven't ported it over to their PDAs & smartphones. T-Mobile seems to be the only one who includes an IM program on their phones.

Looking at the keyboard of the 8703e from the RIM marketing pictures, is it just me, or do the keys looked to be shaped differently. They appear to be rounded only in the corners; right-top on the Q side and left-top on the p side. I wonder if this will change some people's minds about typing on the 8700 series. It'll be interesting to hear the first people actually comment on the typability (is that a word)?? Whaddya'll think??

The 8703e's official launch date is Monday the 18th according to a Verizon rep I talked to today. He also gave me a handout that says the same thing. The MSM6500 chip in the 8703e says in the specs that it supports Brew applications and has the Jazelle java accelleration feature. Also out of the box MP3 support for ringtones is interesting. You'll need Desktop 4.2 and OS 4.2 to load them.

Perhaps they are the same phone internally? Except one has a SIM slot and one doesn't?

Or maybe they both have a SIM / UICC slot?

I'm there... I got your back. My friends are all amazed at how fast I find things on the internet... It's called google, and it's not that hard

<shrug>

<EDIT:> I appologize too, btw, InPocket... I think I'm just flustered, because my company's switching from Nextel to Verizon in 2 weeks, and I've been watching this thing ever since I heard about it a month or so ago. Just got word that the $$ factor could be too much, and I'm not happy about it!! Fuse is a bit short today.

Was just at an Atlanta location picking up a data card and asked the sales manager about this device. She took a look at the inventory in her system and it showed Midwest and South as "in stock" while the other geographies showed "dangerously low" inventory. Doesn't mean much for those buying online but my guess is they should have adequate levels in time for retail launch.

I heard the 8703e is going to have the same chipset as in the 7250. I believe that.

It's not going to have the chipset in the 8707, because that's a GSM/UMTS device, and not an CDMA/EVDO device.

The only question I have is what chip is in the Palm 700wx, and why shouldn't BlackBerry use that same chip in the 8703e?
