The Curve 8330 has EV-DO Rev. 0 which is 3G, therefore the 8330 is a 3G device.

Rev. 0 and Rev A are both 3G. Rev A is just a faster version of EV-DO, like HSDPA is a faster version of UMTS (original 3G, 384 kbps max).

Rev. A would be more accurately called 3.5G or 3G+ like HSPA is.

It is EVDO, which is 3G. When I'm in my home area, my device signal says 1XEV. When the EV displays, that means I'm connected via EVDO, or 3G. When I move out of the 3G area, it will change to 1X without the EV.

Evolution-Data Optimized - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The chart at the bottom shows that 3G is EVDO Rev. 0, while 3.5G is the technical listing for EVDO Rev. A. Still, Rev. 0 and Rev. A are both part of the 3G standard, so Sprint is telling it like it is.

I'd figure by now they would upgrade the curve to rev A. It's been out a long time.

I don't believe the Curve 8330's hardware supports Rev. A. So it isn't possible for the Curve 8330 to be upgradeable to Rev. A.

And they're not going to upgrade the Curve itself, either - that's what the 89xx series is for.

Most of the noticeable difference between Rev A and Rev 0 is going to be in the upload speed increase, which we as users typically don't notice, and if you are doing downloads of large files. For general browsing, Rev 0 is still very fast.
