Default Pearl Help - No Email settings option

Please Login to Remove!

hi all,

just recieved my first blackberry today and have been playing around with it trying to get it to use email. I have got an option for enterprise but not for internet email. Tried plugging the blackberry into my pc after installing the software but no joy with finding the option there.

I have been to my BIS and set-up an account there, and have also registered my blackberry on the network and performed a battery pull but no joy. I have also sent the service books to my bb incase that would work.

I think the issue is i havent got the internet email settings option or cant seem to locate it if i do have, everyone else seems to have an option etc. would be grateful for any assistance.

Also on an aside does anyone know when the facebook application will be useable in the uk on o2?

Thanks

Do these this round of suggestions (some you have done, do again).
My Email Stopped Arriving - BlackBerryFAQ

When you set up your BIS account, it would have asked you for you PIN and IMEI, do you recall entering that at that site?

Perhaps so. How long has it been since you did all this? It can take 24 hours, although normally much much quicker. Like minutes.

You might consider going BACK to the BIS site and looking for your email setup, and a link where you would CHANGE DEVICE or enter a new PIN/IMEI. Do that.

and pull the battery, etc. etc.

I have been back and re-entered my PIN and IMEI in case that was the issue, then performed the other tests.

When i go into the Host Routing Tables i just have *no entries* looking around the net it seems other people have a list of options here?? The internet works fine though.

I tried doing the registering yesterday so over 24hrs.

Well you are ahead of the curve on troubleshooting it.

Yea, you should have entries in the HRT. While in it, can you click menu to REGISTER NOW (if you have not)?

Yes i can click menu -> register now

This was what i did yesterday but then looking around now realised it looked like i needed entries in it to register.

Do you know how i can get entries in my HRT or do I need to contact my service provider?

The entries come with the "service". You don't add them, they just show up.

Look at your Service books: Options > Advanced > Service Books. What do you see there? Any with your email address (you should if all is correct). I know you said you sent the service books, but I didn't read if you checked for them.

You did purchase a BlackBerry Data Plan from o2, correct?

Yes i got blackberry data plan, the unlimited one.

In service books i have the following:

O2 UK WAP 2 Browser Config
O2 UK WAP Transport
Wap Push Config
WAP MMS Transport
Wi-Fi TCP/IP Browser
Wi-Fi TCP/IP Transport

Nothing about an email address.

Unlimited BB Data Plan, good.

Lack of service books, bad.

Unless I am missing something VERY obvious, you have done ALL the right things, including re-entering your PIN/IMEI at the BIS.

One hint, pulling the battery WHILE POWERED ON will often install the Service books you need. They could be downloaded to your BB, and they don't install until the device reboots. I would give that a few chances, once an hour, pull the battery and reboot. Meanwhile, resend the Service Books from the o2 BIS site all you want, maybe 10 minutes before each battery pull.

Anyone else is welcome to chime in and offer something....

Did you setup an email account at the o2 BIS site, or setup your existing email account?

Tried both. Wanted to use my gmail account initially, but then when it didnt work set up a account at the o2bis site.

From the o2 options it says to use the internet email settings, but i just dont have that option.

Also seems odd that i dont have HRT settings.

I had tried doing the battery pull both when powered off and powered on and after sending the service books.

Appreciate all the help guys, just want this to work!

I think i need to have HRT settings dont I? then i can register with the network correctly and be able to recieve the updated service book. Any idea's?

Unless I am wrong (could be) you won't get the HRT entries until it is registered with the network. Maybe some time will work. You can also pull the SIM and replace, just for the heck of it.

JSanders,

Thanks very much for your help, just had a chat with o2 and some idiot put me on the webmax rather than blackberry unlimited tarriff it was only set up for the web and not for blackberry usage. This should be corrected by tomorrow and according to them i will then have the use of those services.

Thanks for taking the time, seems its there issue, will post again if this doesnt fix it.

Well thanks. You should BEG them to correct it today. It should take only minutes for this to be provisioned to your account.

Good luck, have a good week.

Newbie here - I am on AT&T and just got my blackberry. I had the same symptoms and performed the same troubleshooting - and I am thinking it is related to the plan.

I haven't given it 24 hours yet, so it may be too early, but I ordered the phone without a data plan. I then added "media works bundle" online. Does anyone know if this bundle should allow me to use email or not?

The description for the Data Connect plan leads me to believe this is just for BES, but I do not intend on using my BB with an enterprise email server.

So in short: Is the "Data connect" plan required for personal email? I don't see the option right now with the media bundle, but I may be impatient and it might magically show up tomorrow? If I get any answers, I will be sure to post.

Thanks guys!

Welcome to the Forums!

The media works bundle won't do it. You need the BlackBerry Data Plan, period.

I would like to say in such is to check the service books and the HRT table.

If not, either you messed up with the registration on the BIS, or your operator messed up. Makes it easier this way !
