Default BB doing some weird stuff

Please Login to Remove!

My BB has been behaving uncharacteristically weird. About a week ago I went to go open Pocket Day and for a brief moment two errors flashed very quickly across the screen. One was some type of Java exception error, another was a low memory error. The memory error was strange because I has just checked the memory and I had 12 meg left. When the BB came back to life I noticed the call log was deleted.

The second incident I had was I had just hung up from a phone call and the BB froze up, the red light was just blinking, and the screen was dark and would not turn on. I did a battery pull and it came back to life. Since then it keeps deleting my calendar appointments. It deletes everything but the week prior, even though I have the BB set to keep all my appointments for 90 days. All my future appointments are fine.

When I was going through the database sizes, I noticed that a database called the "Content Store" was large, about 500k. I sync my calendar with Google Sync.

Any ideas???

Make sure you close all of the apps and not just leave them in the background.

I had similar problems when I would use my blackberry while it was plugged to car or wall outlet.

I dont know much about google sync. You may want to resend your service books to clean up certain issues with your address book.

12MB isn't seriously critical but it's always best to be over 15MB and you won't get to miss anything.

Just follow John Clark's Optimize BB Memory Instructions

And make sure you store photos and other media on a media card. Check out what's with the Content Store here > BlackBerry Database Details - BlackBerryFAQ

^^ That one's important too! The 5 apps you can't close are: Browser, Messages, Home, BBM and Call Log.

And don't use the Application Switcher too often...

Thanks for the advice. The only other apps I have open besides the five are Pocket Mac, Idea Matrix and ToDo Matrix. I rarely use application switcher. I have noticed that on a battery pull the max amount of memory I can get is a little over 16 meg, then it leaks quickly. I have had this BB for about six months set up the same way, yeah I've added a few themes, but that's it for the most part. Why would this start acting up all of the sudden?
I will go through the memory optimization stuff and see if that helps

The memory optimization procedure should help.

Well, between this site and Crackberry I am up to 18.2 Meg of free memory. I am not that ambitious to reload the OS with all the changes....... yet. I also cleared out my browser cookies and cache and deleted some more apps that I do not use. Thanks for all the help so quickly!!!

Well, I'm back again. I have gone from 18.2 meg to 14.8 meg in three days and my calendar appointments are still deleting. Any other suggestions??

Here is the latest update. I have been on the phone with VZW Tech Support. They are informing me that RIM says there is a bug in OS 4.2.2.196 that can delete all your old calendar appointments except for the past 7 days. The resolution from RIM is to set your calendar appointments to be kept forever. When VZW releases OS 4.5 this will resolve the issue. In my case it looks like they will be sending me a new BB since the OS has not been released.

would a new device really help in this situation as it is a known bug with the OS that ships?

Keep us posted and let us know if the situation is resolved on your new device. I was having similar issues with call logs messages etc being erased and I used a bunch of How To guides from this forum and others to clean up my memory. I clean house every month and have had no issues from that point on. (Pearl)

VZW has told me a new device will not solve my problem and that many other people are experiencing the same problem. But VZW is not going to release 4.5 until the Storm comes out. This software flaw is killing me, I just hope it doesn't start deleting future appointments. If I'm late for a shift at the firehouse I'm screwed.
