Thanks for the responses guys. I do have BB maps installed though and it won't locate a satellite within that also. It's not so much that when I removed the BT device, since when the BT headset was installed I had 3 options for GPS: None, Device GPS and HS850 and GPS still wouldn't find any satellites. Now I have none.

One thing to mention would be the fact that within Desktop Manager when I open the App loader I only see what I installed recently i.e. LBS, Texas Hold'em, Ka-Glom, Jive Talk. Under that it has Other applications 0KB.

Normally with my 7130c I saw everything on my BB, the Financial Inputs, DOD Certificates, everything. I see none of that now. Is it like this for everyone? I figured it was this way because the device software wasn't there. Since normally after installing Desktop Manager I install the Device software for my 7130c. Is there any device software for the 8800 that I could possibly try. I haven't been able to find it on RIM's site.

Thanks for the help guys

The BB Maps download from knology.net works, but the app is so slow on my 8800 it's unusable. The map data downloads a lot slower than Google Maps on the 8700, and seems a little faster when the GPS gets turned off. I'll wait for the "real" BB Maps release and perhaps keep fingers crossed for a Google Maps that has GPS support. Paying Telenav seems silly.

On a positive note, I've never seen a handheld GPS sync up so quickly as the 8800. Near a window on the top floor of my house (crappy line of site) it had a 12m accurate position in about 10 seconds.

Amahk: You're right about the apps not being there. Only the ones you dl to your pc will be there, not the stuff on the 8800. If you dl a software apgrade then they'll all show up.

k thanks a lot BigNewt.
I'm really wondering if I just have a faulty GPS or something. Why me? lol
I just did a full wipe and restore. Going to see if this changes anything. If anyone in the Atlanta area can connect at least I'll know it's not the weather.

I know this is kind of off topic, but where did you get the 8800 OS?

Didn't get it from anywhere. Whenever I wipe and reload it just restores. I figured it was part of Desktop Manager 4.2 SP1. I wonder if that's part of my problem since there there is no 8800 OS that I can use to reload per se.

I'm wondering if I have a faulty device. I'm going to call the store.
Your screen looks different than mine. On the line above GPS Location, I have a line called GPS Data Source and that lets me toggle between "Device GPS" and "Bluetooth." I can click Menu Key and Refresh GPS and it updates with in a few seconds.

Hey Bollar! Well when I have my BT Headset installed I have those same options. it just doesn't find any satellites when I refresh. With BT uninstalled however that's how my screen looks. I wonder if that's how it's supposed to look with BT uninstalled. At least with no choice of devices and not the 0 lat/long parts. Anyone that doesn't have a BT headset installed can confirm?

There's something wrong -- I could choose even when my BT list was empty.

Well I called Customer Service and they put me onto one of their 'Data' guys.
I didn't have much hope to be very honest since I am quite technically savvy, but boy was I wrong lol. Not sure if the rep fixed my problem since he just had me on hold while I waited and then all of a sudden it popped up. Had 4 satellites. I'm figuring cloud cover was the problem. Nonetheless it was an enjoyable experience with a Cingular rep. Very helpful.

Thanks for the quick answers here also too.
I like this phone even more now haha

Angry My First Post!

Ok, I have been working at cingular (i am a sales rep) for over a year and a half now! just got my 8800, and I am frustrated as %^& to find out that bb maps does is not supported by the 8800 yet, do you guys think that this will all change tomorow (on the 21st)??? let me know.

also, this is a rookie question but I have no shame asking, is there any sort of additional monthly fee to use BB MAPS once they get it going for the 8800, the telenav service is BS, not only is it 10/month from cingular, but also and addition 10/month from telenav, let me know guys

I bow down to your wisdom, advice and great work here, hope to become a frequent user of this blog

how crazy is that that BB maps isn't installed by default... wow
you can follow the link -> http://www.knology.net/~acidmax/blackberry/maps.jad
and it will work

As for your question Gideon - I don't think it costs extra, it is just data it is downloading, so shouldn't be an extra charge.

Default Any way to get voice directions on the Blackberry 8800 without subscribing to Telenav

Any way to get voice directions on the Blackberry 8800 without subscribing to Telenav?

The link below works great, got Blackberry maps loaded onto the 8800 and the GPS works with the maps

Only thing missing is the voice directions, which doesn't seem that complicated when all the other parts of the equation are there.

Any thoughts?

Looks like Telenav has the 8800 listed under the support devices sections now.
