Any application other than an OS upgrade do OTA. An OS upgrade has to be done on BB DTM in windows. Here are the steps I take when PM hangs up. You can reset the sync, and most of the time that works. Also make sure you have the latest version of PM. If you are using Leopard, that's a problem right now for PM, they are in the late stages of beta testing. If you are using Panther then you can use these steps if the sync reset does not work.

There are three scripts provided by PM. To get to them go to
Library > Application Support > PocketMacSyncManager > Additional Tools.
There you will find DataPurgeUI, EntourageRebuild and SyncClean.

Here is what I would do if this was my BB.
1. Backup address book and iCal
2. Launch DataPurgeUI and wipe the address book and calendar data off the BB. This utility just wipes the BB, not the Mac. But this is why you backup
3. Launch SyncClean and wipe the PocketMac files and the SyncServices file. What this does is makes PM think this is the first sync.
4. Repair permissions on the Mac
5. Re-boot the Mac
6. Launch PM and set address book and iCal to sync one way from the mac to the BB using the advanced tab
7. Sync
8. Once the sync is completed, you may set address book and iCal to two way sync.

You might be able to transfer them using bluetooth, but to my knowledge there is not way to sync without some type of syncing software. I think the BB's are coming out faster than PM has time to revise the software for the new OS. Your other alternative is to run windows on your mac, and use the desktop manager. Another suggestion is to look at missing sync, maybe their app is compatible with the 9000. Have you put a ticket in with PM for help?

The first time I use it in my Macbook ( Leopard OSX) - it was perfect. Subsequently all the syncs run into triuble and was unsuccessful - the program just hang and I see the progress cursor unable to complete. After a few days trying and very frustrated I bought Missing Sync - it was worth the money ; every moment now the sync is beautiful and successful. Highly recommended

Nathiuria,
Not sure if this is the issue, but do you have a password set on your bb? Also, what do pocketMac's logs say?

I've been syncing with PM on a macbook with leapord for a while now and haven't really encountered too many problems. I do have the occasional hang ups here and there, but hasn't been too much of a consistent problem.

Can't wait to see if the new PM version is able to tackle these issues. I just recently installed Parallels and Windows XP to dual boot on my macbook, and using DM through this is working fine for me, although it's some what of a pain because it would be much simpler if there was a solid version of PM....all we can do is hope

Unhappy PocketMac doesn't sync Addresses with long Notes fields

I have an old (and doh! recently busted) 7130c - I am about to either get the jammed scrollwheel fixed by those repair dudes in Houston, or get something new. (Aside - those guys say the rudimentary 7130c is the most robust of all the models to date and indeed, has sustained several clattering drops on my part until now).

Just want to know for sure if syncing with Missing Sync works with both old and new BBs - including mine (circa 2006) on a MAC. Otherwise, I am going to have to get something else - a Palm?

A bit of background to my syncing saga ...

PocketMac never sync'd more than 300 or so of my 1000 addresses. PM techs told me that their software does not work when there are long notes fields in your Mac Address Book. You would think they could fix that by say, just skipping the notes fields altogether or something, but no, seems they cannot.

I use the Address Book Notes field as a rudimentary database (e.g. easy way to store the last significant convo you had with someone) - damn handy it is. I really didn't mind if the notes aren't transferred to the BB, BUT I am sure you'd agree that transferring less than your full address book in a completely random manner, is almost as good as transferring none of it.

So if the Missing Sync works with the old BB I'll gladly buy it and get my 7130c repaired.

If it doesn't but works with the new BBs, I'll then upgrade to a Pearl or something. (The Pearl is nice and skinny).

Or, I cannot believe that only the BB does email well - what about the Palm? I guess that's for another forum ... I just need a machine that does great email and works with a Mac.

Update me guys!

Oh yes, I'm running a perfectly functional Powerbook G4 with Tiger and see no reason to upgrade it just yet.

A bit later ... Looks like I wrote about this back in 2006 - but I'd love to know if anything's changed!

As far as MS goes with newer models I'd say it is the best mac to BB syncing program out there. I'm not quite sure about the amount of data you're syncing, I don't have nearly as many messages nor do I use the note fields, but I would think that it would be able to handle it.

I've done quite a bit of research on the many smart phones on the market, and all I can say is that I think BB's are the best out there. The reliability in the phones and in RIM can't be matched, and you're device is a perfect example of that. I would say you should try MS out with your current device, and if that doesn't work then upgrade to a newer model BB, and that should do it for ya!

Best of luck.
