Last night we had some serious rain here in South Florida and my roof leaked water onto my Pearl 8120 (Murphys Law). I let the phone dry out overnight and kept my fingers crossed, but no such luck. The phone boots up and looks normal, however the trackball and keypad do not function properly. My phone receives calls and emails, however, I cannot answer the calls or read the emails. I cannot send calls either.
Any suggestions before I go out and buy a new phone? My phone is less than 2 months old.
Thanks. I just read the FAQ about water and I'm disassembling the phone right now and I'll let it dry out for a few more days. It's hard to resist the temptation to test!
I left the dissembled phone in a pot of rice for the weekend, in front of my window. I live in South Florida where it was in the 90's all weekend so it had every opportunity to dry out. I powered the phone up last night but no improvement. It looks normal, however, the trackball and the 2 keys on each side do not work as expected. I then tried updating the OS to see if that would help, but no such luck. It receives calls and messages, I can't access the messages or answer the calls.
Is this phone trash? Should I contact RIM or TMo? Or do I have to bite the bullet and buy another phone? If I have to buy another phone I was thinking about the Curve, to get the full keyboard, as the size and weight is only incrementally bigger and heavier?
