Default User Groups

How do you guys use "User Groups" on the BES? With the large amount of users we will be placing onto the BES we're thinking about creating separate groups based upon internal departments... ie: Human Resources, IT, etc...

I think it's a good way to filter or organize how many users you have belonging to which "department". We also charge each department for the CAL cost too. IT doesn't pick up the bill for everything ;)

Previously, we only had groups organized by what type of IT policy they were given. What do you guys think? What do you guys use User Groups for in your organization?

We don't use group because everyone gets the same IT policy. We can tell department users are in based on their OU. For me I would consider creating groups for software distributions and possibly for departmental level filters.

I have a group setup for each corporation (so company X, Company Y, etc)
I also have a group for each of our agency's, plus misc groups setup. Loaner Pool, Personal Owned etc

It's helpful when one of the area's call and want a report for # of users in whichever group and I can use berrystats and whip out a report.

When I finally get 4.1.4 installed, we'll use groups to divide up folks into their departments. As stated, IT doesn't pick up the bill for everything. Each department pays us back for the CALs and we even charge them yearly maintenance.

I created groups by department, but I don't use them yet. I did it in preparation for the day that different groups do get different policies/software configs and also taking stats. I thought that if I started when I only had 20 some users, it wouldn't end up as a big job when I suddenly had over 100 users.

Resurrecting an old thread...

When you assign an IT Policy to a group, that policy will apply to every user placed under that group? Is that correct? What if a user had a different IT Polciy prior to being assigned to the new group?
