If you do a basic search, you'll find a ton of information on software. But, before a mod closes down the topic, I'll add a couple:

1. PocketDay (absolutely essential)
2. BB Light
3. Aces Texas Hold 'Em

Great thread, but can we include a bit of info of what it does, not just the name?

i.e.:
IjmIrc: an IRC program. If you use IRC and love IRC, this is a great program to have.

I'd actually want to see this thread survive. It's always nice to see what other people think are "must have" programs to broaden the horizon!

1. Gmail. My e-mail is through Google, and setting up the BB to 'natively' handle my e-mail there actually removes functionality (archiving, labels). If you have a Gmail account, this is the ONLY way to handle your e-mail.
2. Viigo. Formerly NewsClip, free RSS/Atom reader. Great for news on-the-go.
3. Berry411. It can be hit or miss with some searches, but is great for finding local business phone numbers or addresses. Will show you a map (Yahoo, I believe) of the business if it can as well as driving directions.
4. IM client. Well, I'm in limbo right now. Ramble IM is free but isn't that great functionality wise -- I'm constantly getting disconnected. Sprint just launched AIM from RIM but I'm having quite a bit of trouble getting it running.

That's actually it as far as programs I use on the BB.

Opera Mini browser: You gotta upgrade your browser for, at the very least, a cache.

Google Maps: Satellite views, directions, traffic overlays

I tried Opera Mini a couple months back. Couldn't get used to the clunky controls. Have they released a new version? I'm having trouble finding version history.

Default My apps

Most have been listed already, but here's my must have list:

Empowered: reads and renders your HTML emails
VIIGO: Awesome RSS (and more) reader - almost my sole source for news
Weather Network Weather
BB Maps & Google Maps (although I use mostly Google now that they have added GPS support and it's mostly working nowadays)
Opera Mini

is there anyway to adjust preferences in Empowered? I liked it, but the font was bold and the background was pink?

Wondering the same thing. I like it but I was wondering if there was a way to change the way it looks.

I am a BES admin so here are my top 5...little different than others.

1) Idokorro Mobile Admin - This is a superstar admin product! You can do Windows Administration from this tool on your BB. Life saver. More info go to Idokorro Mobile Admin

2) Viigo - I know others have stated this one but for someone on the go that likes to stay on top of the latest news for anything this is essential.

3) Google Maps - TeleNav - If you don't mind paying for a turn-by-turn GPS solution go with the TeleNav product...if your cheap and just want directions go with Google Maps.

4) Idokorro Mobile Desktop - This is a Remote Desktop session tool. I use this for connecting to my PC's in my environment to troubleshoot or doing functions on servers that I can't do with Mobile Admin (few and far between). Idokorro Mobile Desktop

5) Idokorro Citrix Client - This may be #1 on some of our Citrix people in our environment but we just started using this product. I saw it at WES this year and have a close relationship with Idokorro due to the other products (as if you couldn't tell!) so we were able to get a few licenses. This may change the world of users on a BB in the business world. Idokorro Mobile Citrix Client

Others that just missed the cut: Texas Holdem, Enterprise Messenger (Sametime IM client for a BB), Yahoo GO, Yahoo Msgr

For what it's worth:

1. Telenav
2. Google Maps
3. Accuweather push (not really an app)
4. Ka-Glom!
5. Infospace Find It!

Surely people can Google the apps to see what they do...

Yahoo Go! is something I'm still trying but find works well.
Viigo is a nice rss reader.
BBweather
Mobipocket reader works great for my medical books.

I just installed and paid for a years worth of web messenger. It is a great platform for allowing you to instant message.
It really seems to work well.
