Exclamation Conversation with T-Mobile Tech Support

Please Login to Remove!

Today I spoke with T-Mobile blackberry support for the umpteenth time. The rep I spoke to said she hates the curve! Before the curve she was busy but not that busy and now it is overwhelming. The nokia and samsung apparently are not haivng as many problems with UMA. She stated that a lot of people are having dropped calls and problems with bluetooth headsets and UMA with the Blackberry but not the other brands. With the other brands not having the same issues she thinks it is a blackberry software problem. Apparently they are working hard to get something out fast to address some of the issues. She brought up that they were supposed to release a new software update but apparently there were still some issues with that. She is hoping that they correct it quickly so her life can get back to normal.

I had the samsung t409. the voice quality was bad, it kept dropping off my router, lots of dropped calls, did not work with bluetooth. the call quality on bluetooth was horrible and would sometimes drop the call.
Wifi range on the samsung was maybe 15ft to be reliable. Oh yeah, and regular RF reception was abyssmal compared to my other tmobile phone, moto v360.

The curve is not perfect, but it is superior to the samsung in nearly every way. Except battery life. However, I loaded the newest os and it appears the battery life is better. Not scientific enough to be sure though.

I wouldn't blame this solely on the software. I think part of the reason the rep would be getting more phone calls is that people are trying to do more things with the BB, thus more potential for things to break.

I have the Nokia, and while it works well over Wi-Fi, all I do with is is make phone calls. I don't use the WiFi for data, I don't use a bluetooth headset, I don't intall third-party apps, etc.

If the Nokia could do all of the things the 8320 can, then you'd probably see a lot more Nokia calls with people having "issues".

New models (and new users) always generate more calls. I bet when the 7100 came out they were swamped also. I know they are working on .180 but it is not ready yet.

Exclamation Heads Up for all TMO Curve owners

On TMO's web site they have listed Software version v4.2.2.171 every device my friend (he works for TMO) has loaded in the last week with the software off the site has reported it as an upgrade to the software, even though the number matches the version currently on the Curve. There is some benifit for those using the Hotspot @ home. making the UMA more stable.

I thought that was interesting to. Even though 4.2.2.171 is loaded on a brand new Curve, if you download from T-Mobile version 4.2.2.171 and hook up a Curve right out of the box, desktop manager will tell you that there are core 4.2 system files that need to be updated.

since the version is the same... it's probably the dump and restore process that has you thinking it improves something. just upgrade to .175

I have not experienced a single UMA call drop ever since the day I got the Curve. My longest UMA call so far has been 1 1/2 hrs.

Really. Do you have any evidence or release notes? It is the same version.

Yeah, both of my Curves right out of the box reported that 4.2 OS files needed to be upgraded when I hooked them up to desktop manager and after installing OS 4.2.2.171 that I downloaded from T-Mobile. I updated one of my Curves with the downloaded T-Mobile 4.2.2.171 and left the other one stock. The "udpated" Curve connected better to UMA then the stock Curve. The two Curves will be sitting side by side and the "updated" one with show UMA and the stock one will show EDGE. Both run with identical settings and off the same exact router. However, because I do not subscribe to H@H, I did not pay that much attention to UMA connections besides what I just described noticing.

Yes, I know. But it is NOT an upgrade.
.175 (and the upcoming .180) are certainly upgrades.
