The .101 OS also bumps MicroSD card capacity to 4gb...

CNN is working now for me. I guess it was a glitch the other day.

The loading process should have backed up and restored all of that. If it didn't then you'll have to add them all back again.

I've been using the .101 since last week with no problems. It has the same hang ups that the .96 has. Takes a while to get to the picture folders. Then whenever I go back to the Media Icon, it opens the picture folder where I left it.

mine works flawlessly the only thing that is weird that my symbols lag to open and scroll thru. This has happened with the at&t .96 release. Before that I had tmo .64

im on 4.2.1.93

is there anyway we can contact RIM and request certain features??

for instance.. it would be handy to be able to select more than one item .. either to delete or send via bluetooth etc.

For now I'd be perfectly content with RIM fixing the the OS bugs. Features can come after they've figured out how to let me use my phone without the hourglass getting in the way so often! Is it too much to ask?

Default Cingular to AT&T Branding?

Hello, i have 4.2.0.71 on my Cingular Pearl before AT&T took over.... If i upgrade to this OS, will it change all the branding on the phone to the newer Pearl AT&T Theme? To be sure, instead of the Cingular logo at the top left of my screen, is it going to say AT&T? Same for the service banner?

I followed the OP's directions to the letter. OS installed fine. The new OS and install restored all my programs and settings.

All is well.

Now I am waiting to get my 4GB MicroSDHC chip to see if it works.

Sidenote: Before this install I had been running the original .42 T-Mo OS that came with my Pearl back in September 2006.

Updating the OS does not change the phone branding.

By the way, the OP's [original poster] tips are right on too. My install did in fact take about 45 minutes start to finish.

Also, be mindful of his tip that the hourglass on the Pearl stays visible for a looooooooooong time. Don't get worried, give the Pearl time to work it's install magic.

Bonus Tip: On mine the hourglass was NOT spinning most of the time. It looked like the screen was frozen. BUT.... I could see on the PC screen that the install was taking place.

I think the longest time the hourglass appeared without spinning was toward the end of the install, when it was "restoring" the backup files and "initializing" the files/Pearl.

I was watching TV and surfing the Net while the install was taking place, so this helped distract me from watching the hourglass and worrying that something was wrong because the hourglass appeared frozen.

So if you can do something else besides watch the hourglass, that may prevent you from canceling the install because you think something went wrong. Also confirm on your PC screen that the install is taking place.

Be warned that even the progress bar on the PC screen interface sometimes goes real slooooooooow, making it look like the install froze. Patience and faith are key words when doing this install.

Thumbs up Worked Smoothly

I downloaded the new OS just as instructed... took 45 minutes and everything, so far, is working great!

Side Note: I as having an issue w/ the missed call icon getting hung up and I really didn't ant to have to reload everything... this was the perfect solution!

Hopefully once I start texting, the multi tap issue will be gone too!

i'm a total noob here (and to the BB in general) and the first thing i wanted to do was upgrade my OS. But before i attempt anything that will brick it, i want to make sure i can revert back to the original. I updated my desktop software to the newest and did an advanced backup, selecting all the options. if the new OS upgrade doesnt work, can i just go back to backup/restore and it will restore it back to factory?

also, i know this has been answered a zillion times, and i'm sorry, but how 'bout once more for good measure? i'm on rogers in canada, if i install this german os, i'll still get my service no prob right?

Yes, you can restore your old OS and data, even if you simply don't like the new OS.

Yes, you can install on Rogers, or any Pearl. It's a Pearl OS, not particular to any carrier.

Bonus Comment: Pretty near difficult to brick your Pearl when doing this. Something goes wrong you just start over again. Worse case you wipe the device and reinstall, but the instructions in here do not require a device wipe before install of the new OS.
