Question Anyone add the other vendor themes yet?

Please Login to Remove!

In all the excitement to simply use the new 8900 and install my favorites apps, I had totally forgotten about the vendor themes that ship with the firmware, normally hidden because of your vendorID. While using my old 8300, I had gotten used to editing blackberry.alx, and either adding "100" (for T-Mobile) to the vendorID lines that determine which themes are loaded.

Now - with the 8900 - I thought to check out the same possibility. Seems that, as with all prior BB's, there are a number of vendor-based themes that ship with the firmware. Most are not loaded, because they specify vendor ID's other than 100. Here's where my memory of the process fails me:

1) As I reported earlier, for some reason, I was able to load the beta .152 OS, production .152 OS and new production .168 OS into my 8900, all without ever having deleted my vendor.xml -- weird, huh? Something is a bit different here...

2) I just went to edit blackberry.alx, and I first tried ADDING vendor ID = 100 to all the lines that control theme file loading. I saved and closed the file, fired up BB Desktop and the app loader, and after scanning my machine and the available software, determined that there's nothing new to load.

3) I edited blackberry.alx once again, this time REMOVING the vendorID line for the theme loading code blocks (another trick that always worked before). I fired up BB Desktop and app loader again -- and got the same results (nothing).

I'd love to see the 8900 themes for the other vendors, and I know it should be possible. What step am I missing here?

I'll save you the trouble on loading all the vendor themes, did that the first thing when I got my 8900...guess what...they are the same as the stock one but with different wallpapers.

Thanks for the update! I never saw the vendor "themes" from previous OS installs. I notice there is a vodaphone, att and TIM themes....

but as you said..just the same precision theme with different wallpaper...kinda reminds me of someone that makes themes....

Thanks -- I actually tried that too. Must have done something else wrong. It WAS supposed to be the blackberry.alx that I modified, yes? Either changing the line referencing the vendorID to either specify "100" (for T-Mobile, which should be the vendor ID stored in the device), or else removing the entire tag for "VendorID" -- I used both techniques, alternately, with my old 8300...?

I'm not too worried now, after having heard that the all the themes are essentially the same. I'll just pop back the old blackberry.alx for consistency with the default setup. Just wondering why I couldn't get it working...
