Default IT Policy Question - BIS disable

Please Login to Remove!

Just checking to see I can set an IT policy that will block the use of personal emails to and from a blackberry. The only email I would like to see go thru to the BB is the email from our Exchange server via the BES. The BES is currently in place and working.

Thanks

Mike

in the 'service exclusivity group' you're looking for 'disallow 3rd party mail services'. IIRC this is in 4.1 BES.

3rd party mail icons on the home screen may not disappear automatically. Going into these apps will force email to be sent through the BES acct. though so this policy does accomplish the task. You may have to "hide" the 3rd party mail icons manually or reload software.

If I remember correctly, the "disallow 3rd party mail services" option blocks mail FROM a BIS account, but doesn't block the receipt of messages TO a BIS account that someone has set up previously on a device. I suspect that you'd want to set the device-side firewall (available from 4.1 of the handheld OS if memory serves) or talk to your carrier to disable BIS on your SIMs if appropriate / possible.
