BlackBerry Messenger icon does not appear on the BlackBerry device
I'm intrigued by the last 'Cause' they list:
"Cingular® Wireless currently does not support BlackBerry Messenger." My 8800 was my first move to Cingular and haven't yet tried to use the Messenger app but I'm curious to know if there are any issues?
Anyways, if you don't want to make the leap, here is the snapshot of the support doc:

Summary of Causes
1. The BlackBerry Messenger application is not installed on the BlackBerry device.
2. BlackBerry Messenger is already installed on the BlackBerry device, but the icon is hidden.
3. The BlackBerry Messenger application is installed, but it is corrupt.
4. The BlackBerry Messenger application is installed, but it requires updating.
5. Cingular® Wireless currently does not support BlackBerry Messenger.
Resolution
Cause 1
The BlackBerry Messenger application is not installed on the BlackBerry device.
Resolution
Complete the following steps:
1. Download the latest BlackBerry Device Software from your service provider's web site.
2. Install the BlackBerry Device Software onto a computer that has BlackBerry Desktop Manager installed on it.
3. Connect your BlackBerry device to the computer.
4. From BlackBerry Desktop Manager, double-click Application Loader and follow the instructions in the Application Loader Wizard to install the BlackBerry Messenger application.
Cause 2
BlackBerry Messenger is already installed on the BlackBerry device, but the icon is hidden.
Resolution
Display the hidden BlackBerry Messenger icon. For instructions, see KB01914.
Cause 3
The BlackBerry Messenger application is installed, but corrupt.
Resolution
Uninstall and reinstall the BlackBerry Messenger application on your BlackBerry device.
1. From BlackBerry Desktop Manager, double-click Application Loader and follow the instructions in the Application Loader Wizard to uninstall the BlackBerry Messenger application.
2. From BlackBerry Desktop Manager, double-click Application Loader and follow the instructions in the Application Loader Wizard to install the BlackBerry Messenger application.
Note: If the above steps do not resolve the problem, download and install the latest BlackBerry Device Software from your service provider's web site, then repeat the steps above.
Cause 4
If you are running the original version of BlackBerry Device Software 4.2 that came pre-installed with your BlackBerry device, the BlackBerry Messenger application on your BlackBerry device may require updating in order for the icon to appear.
Resolution
1. From BlackBerry Desktop Manager, double-click Application Loader and follow the instructions in the Application Loader Wizard to uninstall the BlackBerry Messenger application.
2. Download the latest BlackBerry Device Software from your service provider's web site.
3. Install the BlackBerry Device Software onto a computer that has BlackBerry Desktop Manager installed on it.
4. Connect your BlackBerry device to the computer.
5. From BlackBerry Desktop Manager, double-click Application Loader and follow the instructions in the Application Loader Wizard to install the BlackBerry Messenger application.
Cause 5
Cingular Wireless currently does not support BlackBerry Messenger for use on their BlackBerry devices.
