Hey BB folks -

It's been a long time since my last post!!!

Work uses a BES and no real reason for me to install the BIS software locally other than to charge. Is there an applet, widget or something else I can use instead of install BIS? When I plug in my bb tells me it doesn't have enough power to charge, but yet the charge icon appears.

Any ideas?

You can download "Device Manager" only from the blackberry.com website. That will install the basic drivers for the BlackBerry.

Or better yet, get a desktop cradle with AC power. I find AC charging happens much quicker than USB charging.

I second the idea for a wall charger as opposed to the USB charger, especially if this is a company PC. They might frown on installing DM.

I second it. AC charging is faster than USB charging.

charging via AC outlet will of course refill the battery quicker than the USB "trickle" from your desktop PC.

i'm no economist but i have read that the USB charge is "leftover" energy form the power supply, whatever your PC isn't using. if this is accurate, then you are "saving" energy in that the PC has a set pull from the wall and you're taking advantage of that. using a BB wall charger will pull for its own energy while you're PC is still pulling all of its energy. again, this may have zero merit, but if it does, then it is cheaper and more environmentally keen to charge via USB.
