Hi i just got my new curve 8320 from insurance company. I checked that it contains OS number 4.5.0.81 already. Should i still upgrade it to newer version? What is the difference?

I would upgrade to 4.5.0.124 found at the top of this forum. The higher the version the more bug fixes are included.

It's easy to go back to you current OS if the new one doesn't work for you.

What bug fixes are included in the 4.5.0.124 install?
Thanks.

IMHO, one doesn't need to upgrade the OS on a new device just for the heck of it or to have the latest and greatest. If the device is working for you and you have no issues, why try to fix it? Although not likely, you can turn it into a brick if the OS install goes bad.

I agree. If you don't need fixes or new features then don't fix what ain't broken.

If you're wondering about a new release then read the thread for the release. The Latest OS threads are always at the top of the subforums.

I'm pretty bad, I will update to the latest release unless a number of people say it makes the phone worse.

I do that with drivers and other firmware, always put the latest on anything! :P

In my experience, once you get to 4.5.0.xxx, you rarely see any new features or fixes documented in the sticky threads. I have read most of the
posts in all the "Latest OS: 8310 4.5.0+" upgrade threads in the last few months, and I have yet to see anyone share anything worthwhile
after they have upgraded.

Yes, some claim to have more memory, but no one has really done a diligent before/after comparison. But other than that, new features and fixes are rarely divulged.

In my opinion - unless you have nothing better to do and/or just like to go through the exercise of upgrading - and/or just like the emotional rush
of being on the latest release - there is no discernible reason to upgrade with these incremental-4.5.0 releases that meaningfully improves the unit or benefits the user.

I do like the rush! My BB is fine, but I just can't resist going after that latest beta when I see it in the wild.

It truly is a tough decision. If the BB OS updates had documented bug fix's, each of us could make educated decisions on whether or not to update.

I normally agree with the "dont fix it if it ain't broke" mentality for most things. However, imagine taking that approach with other computers OS's. Would one ignore Microsoft updates just because your current OS is functioning fine?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not disagreeing with anyone here. But as you read this thread, you can see there is a difference of opinion from even the most educated folks.

I guess it comes down to several decisions instead of just one.

The most basic questions that I can think of are:
- are you currently having problems?
- are you comfortable and understand the upgrade process?
- are you comfortable and understand the recovery process?
- are you comfortable with the repercussions if the upgrade / recovery fails?

I just upgraded from 4.2.2 to the official 4.5.0.101 (?) ATT release and it works perfect. I don't think I want to move up to the most current release unless it fixes something major that I haven't discovered yet. Anyone know of anything technical problems with the ATT's 4.5 OS?
