Default Reasons to upgrade

Please Login to Remove!

I've been happily behind the curve (no pun intended) on my OS for some time now, still running 4.6, everything running very smoothly. TMO has now apparently approved 5.0 and I'm being prompted to upgrade by my MacDM. Are there any good reasons to do so? Thanks.

Here's a different position - if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

The problem with " if its not broken, don't fix it " is that is never strives for improvement. It fallaciously assumes that "fixing" is the only thing one can do to an object.

At the time, windows 98 wasn't broken.

But its a good thing somebody went ahead decided to do something other than "fixing it"

and
OP, there are tons of reasons to upgrade. too many to list here, and even if i could, not all of them would be relevant to you. OS5 has threaded text messages, but i dont text... so that improvement is irrelevant to me.

BACK UP EVERYTHING with your DM. Make a careful note of exactly what software you have installed (apps and CORE OS) and then take the plunge.

upgrade. It's worth it.

If you dont like it, you'll have your copies of all your old software (including the old os) and you can just load that up and then restore.

for the 8900, the .882 build is fantastic. no UMA problems, speed and battery life!

Best of luck

Good for you. Please check back in this thread for future issues.

Note that the original poster said "everything running very smoothly" not "I am having problems".

5.0 has threaded SMS, different call log design, the profiles can be really customized to get ring & vib at the same time.... And a few other details.

Thanks all. I'm not wowed by the changes you mention (nothing qualifying as a "good reason" per my original post) and I've read how UMA can be adversely affected in 5.0 (which would be a killer for me). But if it's not too difficult to roll back I may give it a shot just for "fun".

UMA is the one issue i have with os5, but on .882 build i never had any problems.

Best of luck, no matter what you decide to do.

Thanks - in the end the decision was taken out of my hands - the BB booted up yesterday with a "Reload Software: 552" error, so I had to get my friendly local TMO guys to bring it back to life, which they did with 5.0. So far I haven't had any problems but I can't say it's that much of an improvement either.
