Default Outlook Meeting Requests via BIS

Please Login to Remove!

I am hoping that someone might have a solution! When I receive an internal meeting request (from within my domain). The calendar invitation is delivered to the Handheld and an Email not as an Outlook invite (Meaning I cannot accept or decline via the Handheld. When a meeting invitation is forwarded or comes from an external source it comes to the desktop as an attachment (.ics file). These messages show up on the Handheld as an inviation and I can accept or decline.

Is there anyway to have all of my meeting invitations show up as an .ics file?

I would be a VERY happy man if someone has the answer!

Thank you so much in advance!

I'm not sure that I am understanding you correctly, but when meeting requests come in for me they appear to be emails which I can accept or reject by a menu item. Have you tried opening the email with the meeting request, and then opening the menu to check your options?

Thank you so much for responding. Just so that you can understand the difference. If you open an existing calendar entry in Outlook and under "Actions" forward as iCalendar to one of your email accounts. When you open in the handheld it will allow you to accept or decline.

Default Probably no help, but...

I explicitly tried replicating your problem within my domain. It worked as I expected it to, and the meeting was accepted.

My guess is that it might be a user error on the part of the person sending the invite. Does the problem occur if you control all ends of the transaction? The other thing that I would try is having the same person use a different machine to send an invite. In essence, I guess what I am saying is that it sounds like either the person doing the invite or the machine from which the invite is being sent. If you can isolate when of those, then you have a place to start.

In your service books, delete all of the (cical) accounts, except the one that you will consider your default. I chose the account which used outlook.

I am not able to send a meeting request to myself internally. Any invite from inside my domain shows as a email message not a calendar entry with options to accept. If I schedule a meeting and forward it as an Icalendar entry if will be received by the phone properly.

I really appreciate the help everyone!

Eric

No luck with that.... Question regarding service books. I had
three CICAL Entries and I am wondering if I deleted the correct one.

Desktop[CICAL] <----deleted this one
[email address][CICAL] <----- Left this one.

Did I delete the right one? I wish to receive calendar entries from my domain....

It's as though BIS thinks it's a straight email and not a Calendar invite. The ones that are sucessful usually come from outside my domain. The ones that do work on the Hand Held I have to open the email from my desktop and double click on the .ICS attachment to accept. When these come on the hand held and you press option is "Accept Decline, etc." on others it's just delete, reply, etc.

Thanks again to all who are trying to help! I really appreciate it. This is a big deal for me because if I forget to synch using DM I miss or am late to meetings and it's NOT good!

Hi Eric,

When I schedule an appointment in Outlook on the laptop and invite attendees, it shows up on the BB as an e-mail, at least initially, not as a calender entry. If I open the "e-mail" and click on the BB menu key (for me, immediately to the left of the trackball), I get a series of options. The default option is to accept the appointment. Only then does it move it into the calender.

If you open the menu for options when viewing the email that you receive, what options are available to you?

Thank you for responding! When I press the "Menu" key I do not get the Calendar options. I only get the options as you would on a normal email.
I think that it has to do with the file or messages types be sent.

I notice that Ical invites work but regular Outlook invites do not. Are my service books incorrect???

Default Long Shots

In Outlook, under "Actions" when scheduling the meeting, is there a check mark next to "Request Responses?"

Under "Tools," is there a check next to "Send as iCalender?" My guess is that this is required since it sounds like this appointment is coming in under BIS as opposed to BES.

Yes, if I receive an Ical invitation it works. Yes, I can forward the meeting request to myself (off my own calendar) as an ical and it will work on the hand held. The problem is no one else in my company uses ical invitations and all my meeting requests show on the hand held as simple emails.

I don't understand why BIS doesn't recognize it as a calendar invite....

Because the BIS requires iCal formatted document. BES is different.

Wow! Thank you for the answer! I am presuming that there is no way to set my OWA account to use ICal?

A possible option -- less than optimal, I know -- would be to use software such as BB Smart for your email viewer, and then use the option in that software to inject the email sans appointment details into your calender. This would not automatically carry the date/time with it, but would take care of a substantial portion of the manual effort.
