Default tried to update BB software... failed...

I could not for the life of me get this to work. JL_cmdr simply would not wipe it no matter where/how I connected the BB to my desktop. I used the tutorial found in the WTS/WTB forums, followed all the steps... no go...

I wouldn't even bother with this, but I purchased it used and would have preferred to start from a fresh slate. There is no way to perform a wipe from within the device? I guess thats a good safety feature if thats the case.

Was there an error message, can you elaborate as to why JL wouldn't do a wipe?

The error message which flashed for a minute fraction of a second said something along the lines of Error..... could not connect to port.... something like that.

To be honest, the only reason why I know JL_cmdr wasn't working was because I could reinstall the battery and the device would boot itself up and function normally.

I did in fact follow that link upon my initial findings that the device would not wipe properly, however that did not help either. I bought the BB used and thought maybe the USB connector wasn't functioning well, but the BB had no problems syncing with my desktop so I'm stumped.

Would an old IT Policy keep a user from updating his own software?

The only other possible thing I can think of would be concerning the lock password for the BB. JL asks if there is a password used to lock the device, I was input "no" for that, however maybe there is a password that the old user input. I'm afraid to lock it because I'm the second owner and I wouldn't know the password.
