Where did everything go?
Please Login to Remove!
I upgraded as always, but Blackberry Maps seems to have disappeared, even with non AT&T themes. My wallpaper reverted to the default rather than the one I always used (it always retained that when upgrading, in fact my 24 hr time is still there, etc).
And mainly, I did activate Visual Voice mail on AT&T's website, I don't have any such icons.
Am I missing something?
Yes I did reboot.
What else is new? Any chance of getting the new Texas Hold'em Game on there that the Tour is now sporting?
And, what does 4.6.0.297 mean when the exe file says 508?
Thanks,
A confused blackberry newbie of sorts....

Well.. I can finally set my password through the software...
But I'm not getting any voicemail notifications at all - standard or via visual voicemail...

Check your themes. So far VVM only looks like it works with AT&T's themes.

I been using the Precision Silver, which is AT&T's other theme, without the colours which allowd me to use BB Maps.
Did they remove BB Maps completely?
The default theme is Precision Zen, correct?
With the Tree/mountain scape wallpaper? If so, nothing there either for VV.

AT&T sends out service books now that disable the use of BB Maps. It's been that way since BB App World came out.

Run BB Desktop Manager and make sure it's checked.

No USB hub right - direct to the BB. Did you change anything in the java folder?

I am using a custom theme from ECruz... and VVM is working on my phone... the icon was stored in a folder called Downloads... (I have since moved it to the desktop).

So far so good... Installed new OS, rebooted once or twice, I didn't notice a big boot speed increase as others are reporting.
VVM provisioned on AT&T's website and worked almost immediately. Now I'm just going to keep an eye on my battery life and hope this doesn't have the same problem as most other OS' that allow for 3G/2G switching... I like leaving 3G on, but in the others, it would drain my battery in a matter of hours...

I could had sworn I used it recently, even after I installed App World...
But seriously, wtf for?
I understand they want revenue for their stupid GPS tool. But comparing the two programs is like comparing apples and oranges. Sorry for the overused analogy, but it is true.
BlackBerry Maps is an ugly version of Google Maps, with less features.
Google Maps is pretty, supports basic driving directions just as their website does, and that's it.
The stupid program that AT&T provides I have hidden away in a folder for me never to see again. To charge an asinine monthly service fee to use it is one thing (Garmin has a one time fee), I just want a simple mapping tool. It does not compete with them as it does not provide turn-by-turn directions.
So other than that, why does AT&T decide it should not be allowed on my phone, which I bought unsubbed on ebay from a vendor in Europe?
Even the King of Crippling phones, Verizon, allows BB Maps on it! And Verizon is greedy as hell when it comes to disabling things they can earn more money on, like disabling file transfer via BlueTooth!
It is funny how AT&T is becoming more and more like Verizon, and Verizon is slowly loosening up!

because you're using their service, regardless of where you got your BB.
they can restrict what they want on their service.

It came unbranded by a vendor in Europe. Would that cause the reason?
There is no AT&T markings on the phone, standard red numbers (another nauseating decision of AT&T to change since I rather have numbers and letters different colour!), and when it boots up, no AT&T logo.
I don't think it is de-branded. It was unbranded, as in never been branded to any specific firm, so in essence, it's a virgin phone!

Hang on then, so if I take this phone to Canada, when I am on Rogers, my BB Maps icon will magically appear when I deplane and get connected to their network?
Is there a reason as to why they made it this way, rather than just hiding it in a theme? I mean, why are they putting this much effort into hiding a function that RIM puts into their phones? I think AT&T's behaviour on that is unethical and rather disgusting. I am surprised RIM doesn't mind. I know when I think AT&T asked Nokia to remove their mapping software, Nokia told AT&T to Eff off, don't like it, don't sell it.

Upgraded but BB message is still at 4.6. Is there something else I was supposed to do to get 5.0?

You need to install 5.0 separately. It's not included in this OS version.

In order the get VVM installed, you'll need to edit the net_rim_bb_vvm.alx file. Everywhere in the file that has Vendor ID 102, you'll need to change to your Vendor ID. Then you should be able to run apploader.exe and add VVM.

No, it won't work even then, because you get your service books from AT&T. If you were to change carriers and received new service books, then it would work.
