first of all, hello everyone i'm kinda new to the BB scene.

I know this has been stated over and over again, and i know the reason stated is a security one, but consider this.

how about allowing installation of apps onto an ENCRYPTED media card? i mean, it can't be read on another device be it a memory card reader or another BB...

does this not sound reasonable?

loose the ability to directly connect with mass storage (or just view encrypted files - not sure which)... requiring the user to sync apps/music/whatever with the desktop proggie... however give us the ability to use it to store more sensitive info (aka apps)

I love my new phone to bits and it's been only this thing that's niggling me.

Great idea, unlikely to happen, for the specific reason you state, you want to store sensitive info on a Media Card that once removed from the device can't be given a remote wipe command from the BES admin.

Besides, your 9700 has a nice device memory.

how about limiting it to BIS?

i know it's nice... compared to previous models, however 256mb is by no means large by any standard.

at least data files can be called from the memory card it seems. i just really want a true offline mode gps app with voice navigation... for australia. yes too much to ask it seems.
