Question Is it possible to hack a BlackBerry?

Please Login to Remove!

My friend is stupid, and thinks it is possible to hack a BlackBerry. Is he right? Or is he stupid?

I think you answered your own question.

If your friend claims that it is possible to hack a BB, have him prove it to you and hack yours or another friend's BB.

As of now, there have been no reported successful BB hacks.

If you're curious about security on a BlackBerry, this might be of some use.

http://na.blackberry.com/ataglance/g...eployments.pdf

Most of it put me to sleep, but after each section (iPhone, Windows Mobile, BlackBerry) there are ratings.

And tell Alex to first GET a BlackBerry and then he can talk about hacking it.

It really depends on your definition of "hacking" too. Some have been successful in changing the branding or other configurations of a blackberry by using proprietary software. To some people that is considered "hacking".

Er... my funny comment isn't so funny now that a duplicate post has been removed. So, ignore me, please. I'm going to go hack a BlackBerry now.

I hacked earlier when some pop went down the wrong pipe. Does that count?

If you do not know the password, is there any possible way to get past this feature? Even with online programs? Friend still thinks this is possible, what an Idiot!

Did you hack onto the BlackBerry, because in that case yes, it counts.

Just have him prove it. Have him "hack" the device like he claims he can do. Don't let up until either he does it (not likely) or he breaks down in tears (much more likely). Simple as that.

Can he get passed the password? Sure, if he enters it incorrectly 10 times. However, doing that will wipe all of the data off of the device. So he won't have access to the data, therefore making the entire attempt of hacking the device pointless.

The only way he would be able to get passed the password is by knowing it or possibly a lucky guess at it.

If there were online programs that allowed this, we would have a ton of people leaving BlackBerry due to this security fault. If it's so widely available, why do we not hear about it happening?

I call BS on your friend. I think he's talking just to talk.

It also depends on your definition of hacking. Some people also define hacking as system tweaking and performance enhancements which do not necessarily relate to 'breaking and entering'.

Without the password, there is NO getting around it. As mentioned above, you can enter the wrong password in 10 times and the BB will wipe itself completely. But unless you know the password you CANNOT access the data on it. There is no online software or "super sekrit haxor kung fu" that will let you bypass the password. Ask him for the name of his software. I guarantee he won't have one. He's a git.

Thanks. And yes, I'm sure that he still thinks there is a way. He was trying so hard to try and find something to shove in my face today.
