Default Voice Search for Google Maps???

Please Login to Remove!

Hey Guys

This is my first post here...pretty big day for me, haha. I'm trying to get voice recognition on my Google Maps App and haven't had any luck doing so. Currently, I have version 2.3.2 of Google Maps. Has anyone had any luck doing voice search on a curve? Thanks so much for your a help!

I am running Google Maps 2.3.2 on my 8100. It has voice search and works relatively well (I was surprised).

I know you asked specifically about the Curve, but I thought that I would throw in my two cents anyway.

Yeah...I'm not sure which model the 8100 is, but my previous BB was the Pearl, and it had the voice search and it was amazing. I'm suprised the curve doesn't have the same ability.

8100 is a Pearl. Man, you are right, that is weird that your Curve does not support the voice search.

Did you try a hard reset by pulling the battery? I also wonder if updating your OS would make any difference (provided you are running an older OS).

I just updated the OS and made sure I have the most current version of Google Maps and then did a battery pull. I have also done a custom permission set up for the app.

Still no luck huh?

Hopefully a 8310 owner will jump into this threat and let you know if they are able to do the voice commands with Google Maps on theirs.

Good luck man!

Doing a google search for google maps voice nets the a page at google about the experimental feature.

That page goes on to say that the only supported bb models at the moment are 8110 8120 8130

This is the same thing that I have found as well.

Bummer.... but I'll be anxiously waiting for it for the 8320. Sounds like a great additional feature!

Yeah, I saw that as well. I have, however, seen in other forums where people have gotten it to work on the curve, using GM version 2.2.2 (which I have tried). Also, my brother has a curve and it works on his.

I guess I'll just wait for another updated version and hopefully it will work on mine then.

Good to know that I'm not the only one. I'm using 2.3.2 as well with no voice search feature.

I did have that feature with 2.3.1 but it was a version I found on some other site, not google.com. I don't remember if it was an experimental version or not. I had to use that version because the official google version 2.3.1 didn't work either.

What's so hard about making this work? I have 4.3 OS btw.

Any more info on this? As I've said before I found a 2.3.1 version on some site that was supposed to work with a Curve 8320. I wanted the newer features like street view and such so I have upgraded from google. Now I can't get voice to work on any newer version.

Update your google mobile app 3.3.38 & Maps 3.0.2. It has voice search. Works great on my 8320. A lot like TellME

yeah i did try google mobile apps. however, what i wanted to avoid was having to have two apps just to get voice working in google maps. i'm trying to keep my memory use down (only 6 mb of free memory with all the apps i have).

not sure why google decided to give the pearl voice support and not the curve. i can always use vlingo or anything else for voice. but voice support within google maps would be great... should be a priority with cell phone laws and all.
