Default Updating the OS

Please Login to Remove!

I'm a pretty new BB user. I've got a Pearl 8120 from T-Mobile. I'm interesting in updating to the 4.5 OS and it looks pretty simple to do. My question is does this affect my contract with T-Mobile or my ability to receive support, etc.? On T-Mobile's site the 4.3 OS is the one they say is the most current for my phone.

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830)

Legally they could. I am NOT aware of this issue being enforced. I am using a beta OS as well.
Maybe others have had different experiences.

Just if you're going to return it within your warranty time limit, just install what's on their site. Other than that.....Upgrade away.

Thanks, guys. Two questions:

1. Do companies update phone OSes? For example, will T-Mobile ever update my phone to 4.5 or do they usually just put newer OSes on newer phone models?

2. If I decide 4.5 isn't working for me, how hard is it to wipe the phone and install the older one?

edit: Another question. What new features does the new OS have over 4.3? I remember seeing a list somewhere and there was a particular feature that made me want to upgrade, now I don't remember what it was and don't know where I read the comparison. D'oh!

Most carriers post a download link to their latest OS release on their websites. However, you don't have to me carrier specific (i.e: I have used an OS distributed by ATT on my T-Mobile device), but you do need to be model specific ( 8120 OS won't work on an 8230).

Here is a link to help get you started on rolling back to a previous OS:

I have a pearl on t-mobile and had been waiting for months for Tmo to issue a 4.5 upgrade. I came to the conclusion that because the 8100 pearl was pretty much on the way out of their lineup, that tmobile wasn't going to furnish the upgrade preferring to support the newer models, and i just used one of the other carrier's 8100 upgrades to bring my blackberry up to date. Like everyone else said, just download the correct software for your model and follow the instructions listed on this site and you'll be fine.

Cool. The downgrade looks pretty easy if the new OS messes me up for some reason.

One phone backup and OS upgrade coming up.

So far most everything's good. Google Sync failed and has prompted me to log out and back in. Now it's going through a long re-syncing process. Hopefully it works.

Google Sync keeps failing. I uninstalled it and re-installed. Still failing. Any possible solutions? This one's a dealbreaker for me. Otherwise I've gotta go back to 4.3.

edit: When installing the OS I didn't install the MDS Runtime or the DOD Root Certificates. That shouldn't affect Google Sync, right?

A few more uninstalls and resets and I got it working. Whoo hoo! No need to wipe and downgrade.

Thanks to all who've helped me out.
