That it will be pushed directly to your device and you will not have to initiate communication with their server in order to receive and send messages.

Navigating Messages also seems a lot faster to me than the Gmail app.

I'll give you some reasons to use the Gmail app over BIS.

1. Threaded conversations.
2. Full mail search.
3. Access to all mail in all labels.
4. Access to contacts (important if you have different contact groups in different accounts).
5. Archive/delete messages.

The BIS advantages listed are all good points, but they take away a lot of the real strengths of Gmail for me. Push through the Gmail app would be great, but I can live without it.

Either way that you choose to go there are trade offs but it really just comes down to what is important to you.
