I get a white screen with a picture of what looks like a tape with the number 507 written underneath. See my attempt at a diagram.

The blackberry pearl hangs at this screen.

Can someone verify that this is the 8100 ?

A customer brought this for me to repair.

Yes - it is an 8100 (Pearl). The latest version of the OS has been released by Cingular (4.2.0.71) - package is numbered 4.2.0.88.

The model number can always be found on a label underneath the battery.
