Ok were fiddling with a blackberry curve 8320 T-mobile. The software is the latest 4.5.0.81 downloaded this morning from T-mobile’s website. And I’m on an HP with Vista.

I woke up this morning to a red light flashing on my phone that’s it no other activity . I un plugged it from the charger and took out the battery, waited and replaced no change in the status. I tried the spare battery and it still flashed the same roughly six seconds off to four seconds on repeating the pattern. I tried installing the software here’s the prob I got it to connect to the apploader it sead “connecting to device (arm)…“ in the bottom corner. I got to the device application selection. After I selected the programs to install it starts the process.

First it loads jvm and system software.

Erasing applications
Loading system software
Check mark appears on first line
Wait for device initialization ,immediately the red light comes on on my phone flashing same as before
After about 60 sec or so of trying the message on the apploader reads “ unable to reconnect to device during a multi-stage load operation.” red light flashing the whole time its trying.

I’ve tried doing all this without battery in with battery in taping the usb wire as read in an earlier post. The only change after the multitude of attempts is the light flashes six on six off now and no light after connected to computer successfully untill the “Wait for device initialization “ task I’m out of ideas and don’t want to admit defeat and go to t-mobile. I’ve also tried with and without the vendor file in the apploader. Tell me I’m an idiot and for got a simple step or something I’d rather that than give up and go to t-mobile. Also what’s the red light suppose to be doing during the software loading, on, off, flashing ect. any ideas??

The error "unable to reconnect to device during a multi-stage load operation," is common when not connected DIRECT to a rear USB port on the PC. NOT a front USB port, nor a USB hub or monitor port.

Be patient it may take numreous times to catch it just right in the boot cycle. Then proceed to load OS again.

neather one worked dos isint running anything jl cmder wont run eather I tryed a diffrent cable and no change

ok, first off JL Cmder will run.

are you on Vista? run it as Administrator

im on vista and im on the admin I installes jl after that any time I tryed to use it the message "the specifyed path does not exist" is all i get

So many probs with vista. It will work I used a. Dos program to run on vista. Its posted somewhere. If u can try doing it on an xp machine. Less headachs

Maybe I misunderstanding your statement. But, how would suing BB fix the messy situation caused by Vista?

ok i have a curve that will not boot up

i didnt try re-installing the OS yet
i just wanna know if there is any way i can backup first cuz the person using it did not backup before?

all hes getting is the white screen with the clock and the red led it wont load
i guess its an os problem but can we backup?
the desktop manager is not catching the phone when i hook it up?

any idea?

Wow, another wonderful solution provided by JSanders! Can I ask you two questions, sir?

1) Why the heck would it matter to be connected to the back USB connection instead of a front USB connection?

2) How the HECK did you figure this out? haha

1. Using a rear USB port when having connection issues is pretty well documented around this Forum...it is not required at all times--BUT if you run into issues, it is one of the first troubleshooting tips to try.

Why it matters is that the rear USB ports are connected to the main motherboard of the PC, which are powered/controlled by the drivers installed by the BB device drivers.

2. Personal experiencve: About four years ago on the 7100, I had connection issues with a backup to the PC. Connected to a RIM tech via Tmobile, they suggested moving the cable to a rear main USB port. It solved my issue.

Yeah I actually "bricked" my Berry a while back. Did I panic? Oh hell yes!!! After running around the house for a few minutes going " oh god what did I do, oh god what did I do!" I got on my PC and logged in. After reading the How's sections I was able to get an OS loaded on my Berry and was once again a happy addict!!!!
