Exclamation Latest OS: 9900 7.0.0.1938/7.0.0.438 (All Languages)

Please Login to Remove!

BlackBerry Handheld Software v7.0.0.1948 (All Languages)
This will install to any carrier's 9900 by following the instructions below.

Package Version: 7.0.0.1948
Consisting of:
Applications: 7.0.0.439
Software Platform: 5.0.0.610
File name: 9900jAllLang_PBr7.0.0_rel1948_PL5.0.0.610_A7.0.0.4 39_WIND_Canada.exe
File size: 232.92MB

Download the OS file here: https://swdownloads.blackberry.com/D...8C054347C249E1

Instructions for installing on the 9900:
1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process may take up to 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a black "BlackBerry" screen with a status bar for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again, and it should load the OS to the device.

Previous OS here: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...languages.html

I ran this update earlier this morning, and whilst it has only been an hour or so - so far so good!

I am hoping that this release addresses some poor connectivity issues that I have been experiencing during voice calls - I have been having a lot more call drop-outs on the 9900 than I had on my previous Torch 9800. I know that my carrier sucks and has a big part to play in this, but maybe RIM have identified some software improvements that are in this release... I should have a feeling on this in the next day or three.

I did have a heart stopping moment during the restore process which actually failed. I had to perform a full OS wipe, reload the new OS and then restore the loader backup, which thankfully worked OK. I am not saying that the restore process failed due to this particular software update, I do know that these things can happen from time to time. It does give you an adrenalin run which should be enough to see me through the rest of today... :P)

Hi, thanks for your post. I have actually done this process for my older Blackberry, however it doesn't seem to work with my 9900.

I have downloaded the OS and I have installed it on my PC. Then I deleted the vendol.xml file and launched Loader.exe. The problem is that the new OS does not appear in the Loader app list and when I click to manually add it it gives an error message that the application I am trying to add is not compatible with my device. I also tried BBSAK, when I click on Load OS I get an error message saying that BBSAK has not found any installed OS on my PC despite the fact I had installed it and checked it is in the right folder (Loader Files).

Any thoughts or ideas you might have would be most appreciated.

Ryan

Just minor note: Subject says 438 and should be 439.

...ooops, and my Blackberry has mysteriously died overnight and now lights the red LED for 10 seconds, then off for 10 seconds, then back on again for 10 seconds - and repeats constantly. I have tried a long battery pull, removed the SIM and media card... but it seems to be totally dead. I tried re-running loader, and this seems to be chatting with it and goes through the process of an OS wipe, but then loader fails to contact the JVM and re-load. So, maybe it is not 100% dead, just 99% dead. Oh today is going to be a loooong day. :(

haha, I guess I'll not be upgrading my iPhone this weekend... it would be good to know if I have just had an unlucky hardware failure on my pre-loved 9900, or if it is related to this new software update.

OK - so has anyone else been brave enough to try this software update? Obviously you can see the issue that I had above, which may not be related to the new OS at all - so I am hoping to hear from some others which have installed this and are running OK.

Please see separate thread titled "My Bold 9900 has died 1 day after software update " - and let us know!

- good luck, and know where your backup (and warranty) is!!

I have two 9900s which have both been successfully upgraded. Not a problem at all.

Torchy, the bug you speak of was in the factory firmware too... It's not new. It only happens with BIS accounts when you try and email yourself!!
