Welcome to the forums,
It won't do you any good on your SD card. You need to point your BB Browser to the OTA link and install that way. Otherwise you'll need to extract the .alx and .cod to a folder then open Desktop Manager and click on Application Loader. Then click "add" and browse to the .alx file. Finish the installation.
OTA Link

Point your bb browser here:
http://www.geekandproud.net/blackberry/colorpearl/colorpearl.jad
Type in the address EXACTLY as above (case sensitive) into your BBBrowser.

It's pretty simple right now, all it has is enable/disable and color selection. You can set these in Options->ColorPearl.
You can download it here.
I plan to have more options at some point, but need suggestions on what they should be.
Edit: Version 0.2 is out, same download location!

Works just fine on my 8100. In response your your request for suggestions for possible options here are a couple.
1) I find the "pearl" leds can be rather bright (especially at night) so having an option to choose brightness level would be good (if that is possible)
2) To be able to choose the "pearl" to flash, cycle colours or similar on in uncoming call and/or message would be nice. (especiallly if phone is set to silent)
Thanks
Andy

Another possible option would be to disable the white LED altogether. sometimes the white is off and theres just a nice little blue pearl there, but when the white light is on it kind of outshines the blue a bit. Just a thought.
