Default Address Book Questions from a Newbie

Please Login to Remove!

I just resorted my address book from first name to last name sort and it took about 3 minutes to do for almost 1000 entries. This is on a 7290. Seems excessive. I would've thought the "view" of first name sort order or last name sort order would just be a view and not a complete reindexing of the address book. Has anyone else found this long sort times?

Also, I see in my address book categories, all categories I have including the categories I have for tasks and memos. Is this how it's supposed to work? Shouldn't the address book categories just show for address books and task categories show for tasks, etc.?

Lastly, is there anyway to have the address book display two columns with the name and phone number or any other field you want?

Just trying to get used the Blackberry from what I used to have--Treo 600...

Thanks.

What version of BlackBerryOS are you using?
Version 3.8 that comes preinstalled on the 7290, is slightly slower than the Version 4.0 that is available for download in the BlackBerryOS 4.0 Download Thread.

As for categories, all the categories are merged for the whole PIM. That's the way it is currently designed to work. You can add/delete categories from within your BlackBerry. (This won't modify the category fields in the records, just affect your ability to filter them) .... To simplify things, you may wish to recategorize some of your Tasks/Notes so that the same category is used, if feasible. Or you can prefix them with a word, so that "Filter" category lists automatically sort in groups. Like "AB Business" "AB Personal" for addressbook, and "T Shopping" "T Household"
for task lists, etc. Kludgy workaround, I know, but if you must have separate groups of categories for each PIM application.

At the moment, there is no way to list the addressbook the way you describe listing phone numbers for all contacts in that manner.

You might also wish to take a look at a third party PIM such as PocketDay, which might cover certain missing needs; the author of PocketDay is very happy to add simple feature requests, this application is currently undergoing rapid development..

Thanks Mark! I have to tell you that youir FAQs and Tips are just awesome! I'm learning a lot. Still more to get through.

My AT&T 7290 came with 3.8 and there's no 4.0 update available for the 7290 yet.

I'll have to look into 3rd party solutions... Haven't been able to find much in the area of these software, except Pocket Day...

Thanks again.
