Default .wav file from exchange to 8100

Please Login to Remove!

We run Modular Messaging which attaches voicemails as .wav files and places them in our exchange server and faxes as .tif files. I'm sure the .tif files should work through BES but are the .wav files going to play through the blackberry. This is basicly what decides if I go with suretype on the 8100 or go for an 8700 without the multimedia support. I don't want to have to phone in to work to hear my voicemail and just want to play them directly from the email. If seems kind of lazy but I want to be able to play them driving down the road without having to login to the system and navigate telephone interface.

This is more of a feature of the server. With Service Pack 2 for 4.1 on Exchange, you can actually have .wav attachments.

That being said, I'm not sure if it has the same format restrictions as previous handhelds did (32k - 48khz frequencies).

BES 4.1 SP1 supports WAV files, so long as the handheld is running OS 4.2. There are no restrictions on the sample rates, either (tested with an 8khz Cisco Unity voice mail). I suspect that BES 4.1.0 and possibly BES 4.0.3+ also supports this functionality (although I've only tested on BES 4.1.1).

I don't mean to doubt you here Jibi, but if you look at the doc for 4.1.1 it's not a supported attachment.
Livelink - Redirection
Bottom of Page 14/top of page 15

but the doc for 4.1.2 does list it
Livelink - Redirection
Bottom of page 16/top of page 17

This is a new feature/functionality that was introduced with 4.1.2.

4.0 has the ability to mark a .wav as an attachment, and even lists audio in the distillers, but does not actually work. The attachment service can't process them unless it's 4.1 sp2.

NOT true. I have BES 4.0.3 and I can receive and play wav files natively on the 8100. I JUST tested it.

To clarify, I left myself a voicemail, using the CISCO unified messaging system, it was delivered to my Exchange 2003 mailbox, the BES 4.0.3 is configured to forward .wav attachments to the handheld, I received the email with a .wav attachment and selected the message, clicked "open attachment" from the menu, selected "Full content" and the wav file played in the built-in audio player on the 8100, allbeit through the speakerphone.

... FINALLY!!!

any questions?

Argghh! I am testing this without using BES. I have Vonage, and & am forwarding voicemails (in WAV) format to my yahoo account, which my 8100 is paired w/ via POP3. I GET the email, and it sees that there is an attachment, but when I choose it I only get Reply,Forward,Close, etc...

I have successfully rec'd picture attachments w/ the phone. Any suggestions?

Open the message...

scroll to "[1 Attachment]"...

Press the Pearl scroll ball...

Select "Open Attachment"...

At least that is how it works with mine. I am on BES and I can only assume that the BIS has the same distiller.

Maybe I will test forwarding the message with a WAV file to my hotmail account or something.

I can play wav files from our Cisco Unity VM (G711) system on the 8100. We run Exchange and BES.

I tried this with BIS (using gmail) and I don't have the "open attacment" option. When you say press the pearl scroll bar I'm assume you are talking about the trackball?

Same problem as Jaymd123...The 'Open Attachment' doesn't show. I checked the full menu also. Must be a prob w/ BIS...Bummer. If anyone figgerz it out, it'd be good to know.

Maybe you need a data card?
Maybe you need BES?

(I have neither and cannot open the .wav voicemails. I did get and open a word doc though)

I am using both BES and BIS, so that's not it. Maybe the memory card?

I'm not sure about how BIS works, but BES 4.0.3 and higher will distill wav files.

If you are running earlier than BES 4.1 the .wav extention needs to be added to the list of "forwardable" attachments. It isn't there by default.

having the same issue with not being able to open a voice attachment, if you look at the message it doesn't show a paper clip like there is an attachment. but in the message it shows
[1 Attachment ]
application: VoiceMessage.wav (and the size)

no option to open attachment.
BES servers are on 4.0.4.5

how do you add it to the "forwardable" attachments?

On the BES server:

-Open the "Blackberry Server Configuration" mmc.

-Select the "Attachment Server" Tab

-Add ":wav" to the "Format Extentions" text box (at the end).

-Restart your Blackberry Services
