I had to re-install the os completly on my bb and lost all the keys to my apps. is there a way to recover them?

For 3rd party applications? I always save them in Password Keeper. You'll have to contact the vendor/developer of the app.

If you are talking about the keyboard shortcuts for the programs, i.e. 'L' for calendar, then you will need to disable the "Dial from Home Screen" parameter in the Phone module. Phone > Options > General Options > Dial From Home Screen = No
