Use VZW's upgrade... I just did my Sprint 8703e with the VZW 4.2.1 upgrade, and it works great. Only downside so far is that you lose the Insight and Dimension list themes (Dimension List gets replaced with Dimension Zen).

Definately worth the upgrade.

I have used the VZW upgrade for a while now, but I would prefer Sprint released their own so my GPS would function again.

Why won't your Sprint GPS work? Mines works fine since upgrading to the different CDMA version, Verizon, Telus, Bell

I do not know the reason. It used to work with BB Maps until I upgraded to the VZW 4.2 OS and now it just gives me an error when I select "start GPS" It does work with Beyond411 the last time I tried it, but not with BB Maps or Live search. I'm now using OS 4.2.1.110 which i just updated a few weeks ago from an earlier version and it still does not work. FWIW, my BB Maps is v. 1.1.35, hich may or may not be the latest version. I did remove BB Maps and reinstall using the desktop manager, but just get the same error. It seems like I'm the only one with the problem since no one else seems to report this problem. If someone knows what it is, I'd love to hear it.

Download and reinstall using the BB web browser, not desktop manager. That will get you the right version. http://mobile.blackberry.com

Default ringer issue

Thanks for the great tip, I'm a sprint user and always liked my 87. I tried the Pearl for a while but the keypad was just too small and I didn't need the camera as much as I thought I would, but I digress. After swithcing back to my 8703 I was looking for themes when I found your upgrade post. It's wonderful, the added features are much appriciated, my only problem is that any mp3 ringers play completely, what I mean is that if I have a ringer set for SMS, when I get notification I can't stop it, on 4.1 as soon as I rotated the trackwheel the notification would stop this is the same for email and the bb messenger as well. I've tried switching themes, removing and reinstalling the battery to no avail. I've switched to standard ringers with a setting of 1 for now. The new features out weigh the ringer problem, but any suggestions would be appriciated

That worked. The reason I didn't do that before is because it was a downgrade to 1.1.32. I went ahead this time and it works! I'm so glad you posted the above.

RE: Sprint 8703e

Upgraded successfully on first try (these BlackBerries are amazing).

ONE NOTE for Sprint people - during the upgrade, when the installer attempts to restart your 8703e, you get the hourglass-of-death. This *also* happened on BBOS 4.1, so I just did what I did then - unplugged it, yanked the battery, waited 10 seconds, then plugged it back in.

ANOTHER NOTE - Sprint Mobile Broadband (even version 3.07.040) works like a charm. Only difference is it provides the serial number when asking for the device password upon startup.

hi all.. new here!

well, i updated the software to 4.2 unfortunately, it was weird timing. i just bought a garmin nuvi 660. this damn thing wont sync to the blackberry for the life of me! i can get the bberry to sync with everything else i have, so i assumed it was the nuvi. now though, im thinking this is a blackberry problem. one of the main reasons i went with this model nuvi was to use handsfree speakerphone. damn.

ive been in contact with garmin support, ive downgraded the nuvi to 2.8 from 3.0, that didnt help. went back to 3.0, that didnt help.

im stumped, and pissed ive spent so much time on this. :(

My apologies that this isn't exactly about your Garmin, but after a bunch of weird issues with my BlackBerry 8703e, my TomTom GO 910 (updated to its latest version - 7.162) works great. The issue turned out to be on the TomTom side.

Every BlackBerry with Bluetooth that I've owned (7290, 8700-Cingular, and 8703e-Sprint) has generally been outstanding from a pairing perspective. I pair it with my cars (Acura RL), multiple headsets, and the aformentioned TomTom without incident.

So my opinion is that it's probably a Garmin thing, not a BB 8703e thing...

Default Problem with email attachments after adding new OS

I just downloaded the 4.2.1 OS for my Blackberry 8703e. So far so good, except for one thing; I no longer receive attachments to my emails received on my Blackberry (I never had any problem receiving attachments previously). Can anyone help me with the procedures to activate the receipt of email attachments?

Did you make sure the Blackberry Attachment Service was installed when you installed the OS?
