Question No light for the trackball?

Please Login to Remove!

The trackball of my 8900 is never illuminated.
Is this a feature or is there a way to switch it on?

Many thanks

I beleive that you have the "Atomic" Trackball which is black and is not translucent. I don't think there is a way. Doesn't it have a ring around it that lights up? I seem to remember something like that.

Nope. It doesn't light up by design.

That chrome ring around the trackball is the top part of the retention clip right? If they made a translucent version of that clip (or at least the top ring part) the light from underneath should come through. Well at least on the Bold. I put an "atomic" trackball in and from certain angles you can still see a bit of light coming through the tiny gaps.

Man, I wish they made them...

I don't know for sure, but I doubt it even has a LED under the trackball. Since it wasn't designed to have a light up TB.

While the trackball itself doesn't light up, there is a very thin chrome ring (unlike the Pearl ring, for example) and around the outside of that, it lights up. It is kinda dim though.

You're absolutely right. That's why I said "at least on the Bold." I dunno... I kind of assumed that since the buttons next to the trackball light up on the 8900, it might be able to share the light.

Trying to get used to this not-having-a-lighted-trackball thing right now. Lol.

That sucks. I've seen some 8900s with the trackball that lights up. Or were these just early prototypes;

My 8320 trackball was way too bright when used in the dark. I'm happy my 8900 ball is not lit.

The 8100 trackball that lit up in different colors was one of the coolest features of any phone ever. Once you saw it you had to have it. I miss is terribly.

My 8900 came from Orange UK and doesn't have the trackball light. I would really like the green keyboard, as in the pictures above.

My next question is does the keypad on the 8900 light up? Most of the reviews I've seen on YouTube show that the keypad remains dark even though the screen lights up.
And the store model I played around with had a keypad that didn't light up at all even though my Curve 8320 keypad and track ball lit up automatically under the store light.

Even the Bold keypad lights up brightly with the trackball

The keypad lights up as well as a ring around the trackball.

I don't know about you all, but I love the black trackball, wouldn't want it any other way. 6 months from now it won't look like someone peed on it and rolled it down a sewer. It's not like you can just pop out the ring and replace the trackball with a new one now either...

here is the best picture I've seen where you can see that clearly the ring lights up around the ball and the keypad is sort of lit but very dimly lit.

I'm surprised I've only read one person complaining about the dimly lit keypad and trackball ring. One guy didn't even know the ring actually lit up on its own and thought that it was a refelction of light coming from under the screen.
