Need an application for Grocery shopping..
Please Login to Remove!
Hi,
I have trade my Treo for a BlackBerry. The only thing I miss is a good application to manage my grocery list.
I was using HandyShopper and would like to know what is the best application for that purpose on the BlackBerry.
Regards,
François

I'm not aware of anything specific to grocery shopping. Have you checked Handango?

Check out the links I posted. My cousin uses these faithfully because she runs a small cafe.

HandyShopper was/is a GREAT program, and free to boot! I used to use it all of the time.
You can check out PocketList... I haven't used it, but it seems pretty robust.

PocketList is very good. In fact, I use it for keeping track of my grocery list.

ShopMagic
I bought this program when I first got my 8700g and love it!
Unfortunatley, its not free - but not expensive either.

I've tried the beta release of SPOUSE, which had some grocery shopping functionality. The UI was pretty good, but it was resource intensive, however, so I had to uninstall it.
The other downside was, in spite completing the necessary registration, there was an issue in the notification subsystem, as the nag screens were presented fairly regularly.
Definitely not free, either
Sorry Mods, I couldn't resist...

I always just used the Memo Pad. It's dirt-simple but you already have it and it gets the job done.

Starting evaluation...
Hi all, thanks for the feedback.
John, I did perform searches on Handango and the like, but nothing beats the comments of people that actually uses such solution. Isn't what forums are for?
BallHawk3, what is nice about a grocery list is that before you go to the grocery, you check items as "need", then once performing the grocery, there is a view were you mark items as "purchased" and they are out of the way. Once all items are off the list you are sure you did forget anything.
Some program will also allow to sort items by aisle, very cool. Some have support for coupons, sort goods by categories...
All in all, such program ensure that you are not forgetting anything and make your shopping experience more pleasant than using a paper or static list.
Once you invest time configuring one, you'll find hard to go shopping without it.
I am testing ShopMagic 1.3.32. So far it does what I am looking for. Just have a big issue: how can I save my data? There is an export function but no import that I could see. I had to wipe my device last week, surely wouldn't like to have to re-enter my data. I have sent the question to the maker of the software, I'll post progress on this thread.
PocketList seem very cool, but being from Canada with really lousy data plan (4 meg per month), I am afraid that solution would bring my bill to the roof.
SplashShopper is also looking good, but pricey...
Thanks all for your comments.
François

I wasn't suggesting you shouldn't have posted. I simply stated I didn't know of any and merely gave a suggestion.

I vote for SplashShopper. It lets you put an item in multiple stores and has a much nicer interface than anything I've tried. It lets you sort by any field (aisle) and it will also work as a general list manager. It has it's own sync built in, but it's a tad slow. I've used SplashID on a Palm for years and their support is great.

Follow-up...
Hi all,
rivviepop, the millilock has potential but I'd rather go for something specialized in Grocery lists management. But I need a password storage solution and millilock might be it.
On the Palm I was using Splash data, but their Blackberry version for some strange reason, can not sync with a Mac OS machine. I say strange because SplashShopper seem to be able to sync with Mac (need to confirm).
I will probably ditch ShopMagic, did not get answer from their support concerning back-restore of he data.
donc36, I did not find anything about Spouse...
Reluctantly, I might give SplashSopper a try, if I can get confirmation it will sync to a Mac.
A good week-end to everyone!
François

Skip MilliLock for the time being -- it doesn't work on BB, I tried. Given the error it produces(1) I will guess it's because the author used code obsfucation when building, the BB devices crash on that and don't work. I intend to email the author when I get a chance, see if he'll make a new build.

(1) I've had the same error occur on other apps and have talked to various authors regarding this, MilliLock seems identical in situation

Just downloaded ShopMagic, and so far, I really like it!
I like how you can quickly jump from category to category using the track ball, to easily find items you need. Adding new items is very easy (highlight item, then simply press the track ball), and it also has multiple stores where you can create lists specifically for different stores... add things you'd find at 7-11 and the supermarket, or Best Buy, or whatever other store you go to.
I also don't mind that it's less then 1/2 the cost of SplashShopper! I purchased Splash Data years ago for my Palm, and liked it, I'm just not really looking to spend $30 on a simple shopping program.
Also like how it comes loaded with 400 items already in the list! Now I simply add/remove those items it doesn't happen to have, or which it has and I know I'll never need.
If anyone needs a shopping program, check this one out. 14 day trial.
