Default Sound Quality

Just got my 8220 and noticed that when i turn the volume up, the ear speaker gets VERY crackly from mid volume to high volume. Anyone else notice that?

On another note, there are many things i like about htis phone but in general i find it feels very... cheap... The plastic seems very toylike and it just doesnt seem to have the solid build of my old 8320. Guess i have to wait for a bold or javelin...

I have the same problem with my 8330 curve. I think it's just a problem with the individual device, at least with respect to the curve. My girlfriend and friends have the same phone, yet no crackling sensation. I would assume the same is true for the pearl you have.

On mine, I hear the typical ear piece buzz/distortion/rattle that I hear on some of the regular phones I have, like the LG Voyager, or on my Moto E815 once in a while. So this is nothing new to me. BUT it is new for any blackberry I've had.

I've never had a BB that does this.

Yes, it does feel "cheap" and "plasticy"

i have no crackling on my phone, aside from my area being very mountainous. but that doesnt have anything to do with the phone, just the service. to sum up, phone works great.

I am getting a crackling noise when I move the trackball around. I am trying to determine if its some type of electrical short or a defect with the phone. But that's the only crackling I hear. Everything else is good, including the phone quality and MP3 playback quality through the external speaker.

Go to options>Screen/Keyboard, and scroll to bottom of page. Next to "Audible Roll" select mute instead of click.

yeah i noticed the trackball hizz on mine as well. its quite annoying, almost sounded if the speaker is about to blow out, i have determined it must be the sound in particular, during phone call or playing music is just fine. i did go to screen keyboard option and mute the sound, but none the less, i would really hope rim would come with a fix for this and not having to cripple the function of the phone.

I have the trackball muted but I still hear crackling on my Flip that I'm using...seems to be this way no matter what volume I have it set to...

Default crackling

I had the same problem you can control the base and treble, while you are on a call hold down the trackball and turn treble up seems to help

I had that with the original OS but it disappeared after upgrading the OS to a newer one. I'm now running 4.6.0.200

Try messing with the EQ in the audio enhancement menu.
