Default PC doesn't recognize SD card after debranding Bold

Please Login to Remove!

I've debranded my Bold and now when I plug into the PC, it doesn't see my SD card as another drive. Same with the internal 1GB. Mass Storage is on. I even went back to the AT&T VSM and still no recognition. Also, tried a different PC and USB ports. Any fix for this??

Have you tried using a card reader?

try going into settings and manually enabling mass storage. That's happened to me before, and it worked that way, a bit of a pain in the ***, but still works.

Yeah, it works fine that way. But it doesn't when it's in the device.

What do you mean by manually enabling mass storage?? It's either on or off. An right now it's "on".

That's not an answer. It worked fine before I debranded it. There has to be something that changed to stop it from working.

Which file are you talking about? I put back the VSM file that was originally on my device. But that didn't work. Can you help me with this?

mckinney, did you use the **unspoken** methodology? If so, it is known to kill Mass Storage. There is a fix for that.

okay most people know there is a tech menu that is just full of goodies and informations and ways for you to brick your device.

If you used some unsupported method of unbranding your phone please follow the following steps to re-enable mass storage mode:

Hold down alt+SHIFT+H together, This will bring you into an engineering screen
Select OS Engineering Screen
Select USB
Select Port Information
Change option on Mass Storage(MS) to Enabled
Also make sure its enable in your settings.

This should fix your problem. For some reason the unbranding of your phone disables this feature.

This does not always bring up the engineering screen FYI. It normally brings up the Help screen.

That only works if you use the Engineering VSM file. I used the default BlackBerry file and thus Alt+Shift+H brings up the Help screen...

Did you recently have the device unlocked or tinkered on by someone using the "illegal" software floating around the internet?

Mr. Sanders, I am curious. I have seen the references to this process listed as "illegal". You do so, and others, but usually with quotes around the word. Is this process or software truly illegal, or is this a gray area that no one is sure about. If illegal, why? I am not questioning anyone's judgment or suggesting in any way that we should be doing illegal things. Just curious as to why this is illegal if we have purchased legitimate phones from our carriers and are paying for the services we use. Thanks!
