Blackberry 8703e w Verizon / GPS ....
Please Login to Remove!
Ok quick question here...
Since it seems I will never be able to use the built in GPS receiver in my 8703e with Verizon, what exactly do I need to be able to use GPS on the device, ive heard people talking about pucks and such, which one is a really good one?
Do i need any other services to make the puck work, software etc..?
Any insight would be appreciated.

Site that I highly recommend you read is:
Stinsonddog's Blackberry GPS Review
I am using Wayfinder Navigator, and the Globalsat BT 359W BT Puck.
Here is a thread with a petition for Verizon to enable GPS.

brucejr how do you like the 359 does it work well? I'm thinking i'm going to have to buy one as I don't think Verizon will be changing their evil methods anytime soon. it's an expensive little guy and i feel inconvienced that i need this to use GPS but whatever... i did sign the petition

I just received the 359 a few hours ago. At my desk, I took it out of the box, turned it on, enabled BT on my 8700g, started BB maps, looked around through the menus and figured out how to connect to the puck, set preferences, etc., and in that short time I had a position fix and was seeing my location on the map. Went out and played with it a little in the car. Works fine. Very cool.

Exactly what are you spending your $160 on? There are good deals to be had on BT GPS receivers . . . I got my GlobalSat BT-338 through buygpsnow.com. Many excellent receivers are under $100.

Ditto. Sync'ed up quickly with my 8703e. Got mine from Cingular for $99. Real happy with my investment. I owe it all to Stinsonddogs awesome GPS review! Liike your avatar aiharkness. My parents have had (2) dobbies and llove the breed.

I got mine (359 - $100) in the mail on the 20th, and took it on a trip to Ohio over the holidays. Works as well if not better than my wife's built in Navigation.

It is very thin. Here are the specs:
::::: Globalsat Technology Corporation :::::
Attachment 6421
The Globalsat 359 is on the left of the three.

Gots to agree Stinsonddog. Easy to use, real thin, and sync's to my BB real fast. Reception is real good with it also (for me). I have put it on the dash, and on the front seat with no interuption in info.

Help Understanding using Maps with GPS Bluetooth receiver
Hey guys
I'm new to the forum and have learned a lot by reading through the threads and recommended links. I just purchased the G-Sat 359 which was recommened in this thread and it seems to work fine. I was able to connect to BB Maps and see my position along one of my routes.
I have a Verizon BB 8703e
Here's my questions:
Can you get Voice turn-by-turn directions using BB Maps and a GPS receiver?
If not, is a monthly subscription required to get voice directions using something like Tele-Nav?
Is there any free software that would give you Voice turn-by-turn directions?
Does Google Maps connect to a bluetooth GPS receiver?
If you use one of the subscription nav software, there's really no need to BB Maps or Google Maps, is that correrct?
Thanks in advance for your responses!
Allen

brucejr,
Just wondering what your personal opinion of the 8703 w/ you globalsat puck is. I'm going to be purchasing the BB 8703e this weekend and was also looking at purchasing a puck as well. Will BB Maps work with gps? What about google maps? Any addition information would be greatly appreciated as well.
Thanks,
Eric
