Default Problems with Browser & OS Stability on AT&T

Please Login to Remove!

I upgraded from an 8700C 6 weeks ago and have had a very disappointing experience. I've already replaced one BB Bold and am going to have to replace a second or go back to my 8700. Several times a week, the BB spontaneously reboots. The browser regularly hangs, and when rebooted manually will connect to a couple of addresses before it hangs again. The wifi often works at home, but never at AT&T websites at Starbucks. Other times, the wifi icon will light up as if it is connected, but the connection works at EDGE speeds.

All-in-all, the experience has been disappointing. All I can say positively about the experience is that when I went to exchange my first unit at a local AT&T retail outlet, they did it cheerfully and without complaint. Small consolation, I suppose.

Has anyone had similar problems? Are there settings I could try that would solve these problems or should I just give up and switch to the way cooler iPhone?

what OS are you running? That could be one problem.
I think you have to logon to a hotspot such as those at Starbucks etc, its under wi-fi settings in the setup folder.

Yeah, do the os upgrade. It takes only 20 mins to do. Well worth it. Go up to at least .216 if you want an official version.

As for the hotspot, you get into the hotspot browser under bookmarks (scroll up)

Keep in mind that wifi stuff will also likely be upgraded in the os.

So much has changed since the phone was released...its in your best interest to do the os

I have devices on my server running 4.6.0.167, 168, 216, 219, 228 and 234. None have experienced this.

With AT&T rebanding 3g and 2g networks, maybe the phone is working hard to lock in on the signal causing lockups, disconnects and general mischief reguardless of WiFi use.

My opinion would be the area you are in and it will just take some time for AT&T to work them out.

Thank you for the suggestions. I'll look at doing the os upgrade and see if that helps. Gotta tell you, though, my overall experience lately with the 9000 and with Blackberry generally has been disappointing.

If the upgrades do not make it stable, try turning off wifi. That is what it took for my ATT bold to cecome stable.
