Default 9700 sms question

Please Login to Remove!

hey guys. I come from a nokia n82 so I'm used to nokia's messaging, but I found the 9700's messaging quite different and confusing. what I do is go to the "messages" icon, press on the blackberry button and select "compose sms", it asks for a contact so I input the number (although it always recognizes text first before the number, how can I change this?) and select "ok", it then shows a page that looks like a chat box and all the messages I received from a completely different contact, I thought this was ok so I typed my message, clicked on send and it really did send to the other contact. I tried several times and changed the recipient from inside but it still sends to the same contact! what am I doing wrong? thanks

edit: btw, I'm not registered to the email account service (dont remember the name exactly) that it keeps asking about when you enter the messages icon.

Are you trying to compose a text message or use BBM?

Please do not bump a post. it only infuriates the electron and doesn't get you an answer any faster.

when you type in the "to:" box, as you're typinx mixed letters, underneath it will be the numbers. if i type in for example "0swweerr" and press the trackpad key, it will auto change it to "04112233" since i do not have anything even remotely related to 0swweerr in my contact book.

now the next issue i believe is threaded sms. think of it as combined IM and sms. if you type in that bottom window, you are replying to what came before... therefore sending it to that person. i'm not sure how to disable it (i love it personally). if you want to make sure you are sending to a particular person, either open up a threaded sms conversation with that person, or manually create the sms using the message centre/create sms menu.

remember, if you type in that bottom box, you are replying to the person above.

if you have the time, read Stinsonddog's tips.. better than the manual i say. (link's in dubdub's sig)

i find it easiest to hit the call (green) button and type in the number, then using the menu button select SMS. If you choose to compose it assumes you are looking for a contact, but when you are typing in the dial screen it assumes first that you are typing a number. Does that make sense?

mine is threaded by default and i'm not sure how to change it. tbh i love it that way. basically it's like this image (credits to ummm kevin for that photo i googled)

when you enter the "sms and mms" section from your home screen, you are only displayed the last message from/to each contact... in order to see older messages to/from each contact, you must first open up a sort of chat list.

this chat list is in chronological order, with date and time stamps to help.
organising messages this way is "threaded"... just like this thread

i would use this method if i were REPLYING to this particular contact because it feels as if i am continuing a conversation. however if what i have to say has nothing to do with what's come before, it would make more sense to use snowmangoh's method. both ways work fine, it's just a matter or which makes more sense to you in your mind.
