Are there any other safe options like this out there?

There is no sound degradation. You can convert music from 32 kbps to 320 kbps so it gives you many options. It will output to MP3, WMA, Ogg-Vorbis, and WAV. I would recommend download a trial. Downside of the trial is that it will only convert one song at a time and ask you to purchase between songs. Once purchased, it will convert 5 songs at a time and not ask you to purchase.
You are correct...it will take DRM AAC files and convert to your choice of 4 file types.
I use the MP3 format and listen on my BB and in my car.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
