Wirelessly posted

So I am currently in Las Vegas on a quick weekend trip with my wife. Last night while walking through the Fashion Show Mall on the strip when I notice out of the corner of my eye a Bold in a kiosk in the middle of the aisle.

Of course I ask the wife if we can stop so I can play around with it (I haven't had a chance to play with one yet, and let me just say that I am now even more excited for the US release than I was before).

After messing around with it for a little while I ask the salesman if it is an unlocked version? (It was Rogers branded) He says yes and the price is $1100. Uh.... Really?

I just laughed and came to the conclusion that the additional $600 was for that dude to pay off a gambling debt somewhere in this city.

Thought you all might enjoy that.

... except you can't walk into a retail store today and buy it for $500.

This is standard supply and demand. Since we're still a week away from these phones being retail accessible, you'll pay a convenience tax to get it today. Sure you can get it cheaper on eBay, but if you really wanted it then and there, you'll have to pay.

If you were so inclined, I'm sure you could have negotiated it to about $900.

While you can't "walk" into a store and get one yet if you live in the US, you can get one overnight from Canada for far, far less that what this guy is asking.

That was kinda my thought. I was going to say something to the guy, but I figured I didn't really want to upset him. At least he let me play around with the device! Can't wait for next Tuesday.
