Default Text not working on 8350I =(

Hi everyone,
I just bought my boyfriend a blackbery 8350i for his bday. We switched the sim card over from his old phone and new phone and everything seemed to be working fine, but we just realized that he is unable to send SMS OR MMS texts from his phone. There is no option to compose sms or mms. Is this because he has not yet purchased the blackberry data plan?? I read that a lot of other ppl seem to have problems with it also, but I have tried all solutions that I read about...any other advice?

Simply swapping the SIM card is not sufficient. You need to contact Sprint / Nextel and :

1. Add some sort of data plan

2. Give them the IMEI / Ser # / and Sim ID

3. Get a login for the BIS and send the service books to the phone. Otherwise, the tech can also refresh the service books AFTER the phone is properly activated and a data plan has been added.

Default There may be an IT policy on the device

Go to Options > Security Options > General Settings

If you see a IT Policy Name listed there then follow the directions below.

Download Desktop Manager 4.7 and install
Open your command prompt
Browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader>
Connect the BlackBerry device to the computer
run the command "loader /resettofactory"

*** THIS WILL WIPE THE DEVICE ***

Backup your data first

Has anyone been able to text I have had the problem since i bought my phone 3 weeks ago. all of sudden today when my phone came on all my text started working just fine i wonder if it was from a post i read on crackberry or did nextel rim or whoever finally fixed it has this happened to anyone yet let me know. the gps still sucks but one thing at a time i guess right?

Unable to Receive MMS on 8350i
1. Verify the device displays NXTL in the top right.
3. On the device, go to Options | Advanced Options | Browser Push
4. Verify the following are checked (if not, check and save option):
a. Enable Push
b. Enable MDS Push
c. Enable WAP Push
5. Go back to the home screen.
6. Go to Options | MMS
7. Verify Multimedia Reception and Automatic Retrieval are set to Always.
8. Verify Reject Anonymous Messages and Reject Advertisements are not checked.
9. Go back to the home screen.
10. Go to Options | Security Options | Firewall
11. Verify the Firewall Status is set to Disable.
a. If not, press the trackball and change to Disable.
b. Press the Menu key and press Save
12. Verify MMS and SMS are not checked under xxx8220;Block Incoming Messagesxxx8221;
13. Go back to the home screen.
14. Do a test text message
If still no MMS
15. Make sure you call Nextell and verify you have the correct data/email on your account.
16. Remove and reinsert the BlackBerry battery.
17. Perform a Master Radio Reset.
18. Turn the wireless on and verify the device displays NXTL in the top right.
a. This may take a few moments.
19. Perform a Register Now
20. Sent a test text.
